"Remastered" you say? Only if you spell it "Cash grab"
Let's be clear, Ride the lightning is a fantastic record but I have the original and some bloody expensive hifi equipment to play it on and by that I mean the sort of gear that will point out the differences in recording between individual tracks.
So why then can I not detect any difference between my ancient original cd and the spanking new remaster?
This is an excellent example of the cynical record industry practice of run the original by a noise gate (low setting to "preserve the original feel") and call it digitally remastered!
If you really want to hear a true remaster done with care and attention then I'd like to point the reader in the direction of Death's (RIP Chuck Shuldiner) Human and Individual Thought Patterns. These are true upgrades that are distinct from the originals even when played on budget equipment.Read full review...
