Roland Wonder Board

By no means am I a pro, but I've been playing keyboards off and on for over 30+ years. Just getting back into it and starting from scratch. After watching countless videos and reading many reviews, I decided this little synth needed to be part of the new home studio. It was worth the research. I love the JD-XI. After just several hours of messing around, I realized what a monster lay beneath the small exterior. Many of the digital patches are just amazing considering from where they are coming from. Being a new owner of a FA-06 and a Jupiter 80, I'd say the JD-XI keeps up with the big boys. Don't let the size fool you. It's like having a dedicated 808 drum machine along with a pattern sequencer, along with a nice little analog lead synth, topped off by decent effects processing. IF that wasn't worth the price right there, you still have a two more layers to add full blown warm roland synth sounds to boot! VERY HAPPY with this board. I haven't even scratch the surface as to what Roland packed into this build. It's just insane. Loving it.Read full review...

Not very good for an analog synth.

I have owned hundreds of synthesizers analog to digital and I think this is a great synth for a starter. I enjoy all of the sounds and I love the drums but I despise the controls. The analog synth has literally no expressiveness at all. It is in very important thing for synthesizer to have expressiveness in its envelopes. It does have very nice clear sound and it has quite a few sounds and I do like the way you can sequence and make quick hooks. I think it is an excellent little machine but do not expect the analog side of it to compete with any analog synth at all. The same as to be sad with the digital since I'd it has great sound but it's not as expressive as it needs to be. It's a cute little unit and if you're new to keyboards I definitely say buy it but if you're a professional I say leave it alone.Read full review...

Great for making ideas on the fly and awesome drums and synth presets

Awesome synth with a great work flow the effects such as reverb are not half bad, however the menu diving be clunky especially when trying to edit a preset opposed to the Korg volca keys where attack decay sustain ect are mapped to a separate knob you have to click around and select a number amount for each so wouldn’t recommend if you are huge into sound design over though I love itRead full review...

I'm Happy with this purchase.

I like the fresh approach that Roland has taken with the JdXi.
It serves as a toolbox of different types of sounds, analog and FM, arpeggiator, drums, effects, storage, etc
Although none of these functions are complete in themselves' the unit as a whole creates a fun and creative environment to experiment with new ideas.Read full review...

Amazing sound engine!!

Small keys, little profile and HUGE SOUND!!! I bought one and sold it because I thought it wasn't very expressive but I got another one (white model) and I am instantly in love again with the sounds and the vocoder is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! I say buy it 10 times over!! 5 stars from roland ***** love the step sequencer, and it feels like a tb 303 to me with keys and drums and supernatural sounds too! Serious acid machine actually all the way.Read full review...

Great tiny synth

The good: looks pretty, sounds are awesome. I loved the small keys, keyboard is very responsive.

Not good: menu to edit sounds is too complex. Too short sequencing time.
The best: So tiny and so powerful. The vocoder feature is real fun to play with.Read full review...

Super fun compact music maker.

It's going to take some time to learn all the ins and outs of this, but as a former dr 808 and sp 303 owner, this is right up my alley. I love it. Just make sure you have a manual. If the one you're buying doesn't include that, no worries. Roland's website has them online in pdfs.Read full review...

Great Synth

This thing is a lot of fun! A lot of the detailed editing is done through the small menu screen which can become a little cumbersome, but they've made a lot of the more common tools easy to get to. Overall a fantastic synthesizer.Read full review...
