A good close look at the creation and development of Roxy Music.

If you are a fan of Roxy Music, you will want to see this video. (and, by the way, I think that the entire "Inside" series is well worth checking out)

Concentrating on the early days, when Brian Eno was an important component in the magic that created the band, generous concert footage and thoughtful interviews with musicians and critics provide a solid understanding of what this great and influential band was all about.

Since I was a big fan during the original heyday of Roxy Music’s career, I viewed this video with a wistful nostalgia. Younger fans may have trouble placing themselves in that bizarre, tumultuous, post-psychedelic, pre-punk time frame where modern experimental music was seeking the “next big thing” and nobody was really sure what that would be.

In my opinion, it is unfortunate that Roxy has been, historically, so rigorously pigeon-holed as a “Glitter Rock” band, because, despite that outward appearance, they were quite sophisticated and profoundly experimental on many levels.

Roxy’s influence has been felt for many years, and they are finally being recognized as much more closely related to the Velvet Underground than to David Bowie. This video will help you understand why.
