GREAT value Android phone for BASIC/ENTRY level use, only!
I bought this phone because I was looking for a cheap replacement phone, but was pleasantly surprised of the VALUE this phone carries with it!
The phone can be a little hit and miss when it comes to multitasking and this drains the battery very quickly, however, for light to moderate use throughout the day, you can't go wrong with the Zio.
The battery life with light texting, a few 5 minute phone calls and a few minutes, here and there of internet use will get me around 7-9 hours on a charge. If you use the internet heavily (ie. Facebook, Youtube, Google Maps, etc) constantly, your battery might not last you 2 hours. Standby time is generally good for an entire day or two, if you keep it in standby.
Note: When you are in Roaming on this phone, the battery drains more than twice as fast!
This phone comes with the basic feature you will find with just about any other Android 2.2 phone. The phone has less on board memory than a lot of other phones out there now, so if you are looking to download and run a lot of apps, this phone will quickly fill up and slow down...
The keyboard is great for small to medium fingers, but if you have fat ones like myself, you will find it quite a humorous challenge!

Great value for the money!
Let me just say to start off, I have had so many phones it isn't funny! I've had everything from a katana, to a blackberry, to the htc evo. I bought my zio on here for $25. And let me just say that was a total bargain! I love this phone. Compared to the evo, the battery life is much better! I'm always texting and on facebook, which tends to wear a battery down. However, from the time I go to work in the morning, until I go to bed, I still have over half of the charge. Which I think is really good for a smartphone. The only think I dislike about this phone is that it is heat sensitive. Which means you cannot use a stylus. And getting use to texting without a keyboard is tricky. I've been using it for about a week now, and I'm getting the hang of it though. It is very similar to the evo. I personally would pick this phone over the evo anyday. Much better on the wallet, too! Better value exists elsewhere
Alright, let me just start of by telling you that my primary Android device is an HTC One X, a top-end smartphone; so I'm kind of spoiled when it comes to these type of devices. The Sanyo Zio is as entry level as you can get for an Android phone. Personally, I believe that better value can be found elsewhere for maybe a little more, but if you only have around $20-30, this is an okay device.
Pros:
-pretty simple to use
-decent battery life
-comes with a dedicated battery life
-speaker is pretty good
-not a lot of bloatware
Cons:
-probably one of the slowest, and most laggy
Androids out there
-comes equipped with a stripped down version of Android 2.2 (instead of the Google Play Store, it has the Android Market)
-the keyboard that comes with the phone absolutely sucks, I really cannot express how bad the stock keyboard is
-the screen is not very responsive
-the camera zoom is horrible
-no multi-touch features within the phone
-the software isn't very intuitive (i.e. to uninstall applications you have to go to the android market, and then go to your downloads before being able to uninstall applications; in most Android devices in my experience, uninstalling unneeded apps are much easier)
-an absolute pain to connect to your computer; I still haven't found way to connect it to my computer, but I do know for a fact there is a way
Conclusion:
I really don't recommend this device if you don't want a stroke or a heart attack within the next year. I guarantee you that better value exists elsewhere, and I would actually prefer some high-end messaging phones over the Sanyo Zio.Read full review...
3G phone with 4G value.
I bought the Zio as a replacement for the Sprint PPC-6700, which lost its software support earlier this year for Windows Mobile 5.0. The Zio comes with android 2.1, now downloads "froyo" 2.2 upon activation, and will probably receive "gingerbread" 3.0 by July 4th. Although technically this is not a 4G phone, it has all the features of 4G made available by the frequent android platform updates, save 4G network speed (which in itself is still a work-in-progress). I have all the apps and features of 4G phones, including wifi hotspot creation (even though I need an update to 802.11n protocol). The clock speed of the Zio processor is 667 Mhz, about 67% of the top-of-the-line 1 Ghz processors for many 4G phones (but not all of them). A 3.2 MP camera, 2 GB memory card, hdmi connectivity, and a wvga color screen round-out the feature set of the Zio. Given its $250 price tag without a sprint contract, and its 3Q 2010 release, sprint positioned this phone to take up the slack for an incomplete 4G rollout last year. Maybe in another 2 years, Sprint will complete its 4G rollout coverage to outerlying areas, particularly my home. I would spend more money and get a better quality phone.
I would highly recommend buying a different phone. I ordered one it was brand new apparently with bad software and couldnt even use it. The phone was really cheap with a plastic screen. More likely to get a whole of scratches and very easily. Just a cheap junk phone you would give your 6 year old to play with and have fun with. I would not use this phone if Sprint paid my bill every month and thats $159 a month. No thanks but I will pay that and use a better phone. Please check out other options and spend the extra money cause if you dont youll be sorry. I hope my rambling on helped at least one person with not making a poor decision. Take care god bless.

Awsome phone...especially for the price!
I absolutly love this phone. Lets just say I had an htc hero before this, and hated it only because the phone froze and shut off all the time. That is why I bought this phone. Also you can typically buy these phones for pretty cheap. This phone is big, but not too big and not too small. This phone is easy to use with the advantage of the high technology of the smart phones, and is overall a great phone!I honestly do not have anything to complain about this phone. You get what you pay for
I bought this phone because my HTC broke and I didn't have money to spend on a new NICE phone. I didn't expect much when I got this phone but actually it hasn't been a bad phone at all!! If you need a phone ASAP and don't have much money to spend I'd recommened this one. If you have money to spend, do not get this phone. The worst thing about it is it not having a flash! It takes horrible pics because of that. Othe then that, it would be perfect for a teenager just getting his first phone!Read full review...
good value for the money
This is a great phone for the money. It is slow though, and it is not my cellular service that I am talking about; it takes a few seconds once you click on something for the screen to come up... like to reply to a message. And it also takes a bit for the screen to rotate when you turn it on its side. Touch sensitivity is decent, but not the best. This is a great starter smartphone. I wouldn't recommend it if you are already familiar with smartphones/ have had a droid or iphone before.Read full review...
Excellent Overall Phone
This Zio has gotten a bad rap for some reason. I personally love it. I buy and sell a vast amount of cell phones for Sprint, and of all the mid-range Android phones available, I like this particular design best.
Pros:
It looks different that the other million and one slab Android phones available.
It seems to get better reception than most other phones I've used.
A ton of features at a very affordable price.
Cons:
The only con I can see is the touch screen seems to scratch up easier than a Samsung or Lg phone. A simple screen protector will fix this.
Bottom line is, if you can buy this phone for cheaper than 125 dollars or so here on Ebay (as of may 2011), you got yourself a steal.Read full review...
