Not a real Steel, just a poor quality coating.

Don't be confused with the real deal. The is a very low quality product masquerading as a proper sharpening steel. The reality is it's simply a thin plastic coating over a plain piece of steel. Within a week the coating of sharpening abrasive had worn dramatically and started to bubble and peel from the metal rod it was stuck too. Don't easy your money on Scanpan.Read full review...
