Latitude E5430

Hi,

This CPU was not on spec for E5430 so I risk to buy it but everything worked perfect.
I did a lot of research but when high end laptop workstation examples like Precision was known to be okay there was no evidence on cheaper low end Latitudes like mine E5430 - Dell tech support refused to answer regardless of number of calls and emails went there.... mine has i3 and 2Gb Ram from factory few years ago.
Once a while it got a 8Gb and i5 CPU just had a chance to swap hardware w other laptop....
This one was my last upgrade for the life of this machine. till I got this i7 CPU.
Stock bios was left as is in version A6. There is more powerful power supply in use, just in case if anyone uses smaller slim stock one - I don't know it it will affect anything, few I have is from 90W to 125W.
Actual upgrade w CPU swap took 10 min, all left stock, just new thermal compound used and NEEDED.
Everything is perfect, just a bit extra cooling like cooling mat is recommended under heavy load, no need for regular office apps and such.
This is firsthand testing and so far for a week of various usage - no any errors or glitches.
CPU Temp w std cooler and no cooling mat is between 56 to 105C C depend on load.

Hope that will help if anyone else ask.

System as it stands now:

14" LCD std HD (1366x768) Intel HD4000
SR0US Intel® Core™ i7-3940XM Processor, 8M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz, 5 GT/s, PGA988
Intel QM77 (Panther Point)
2x8Gb RAM Kingston
240Gb SSD Intel
backlit kb
6cell batt pack

(Win 7 Pro)

with all that and light use - web browsing and emails /wifi on, display at 50% I getting about 2hr 30min runtime.
CPU sits at 66C

Works fine in Lenovo T530!

I was not fully certain it could be practically used in Lenovo T530, and initially it was not recognized.
After applying the last T530 Lenovo firmware it started fine.

I could no longer get the T530 to charge the battery using the small 65W Lenovo Power adapter, but the sensible 90W worked fine. (We don't need to use the gigantic 135 or 170W adapters.)

Therefore it is a very sensible upgrade provided you find the CPU at reasonable cost. If you have an QC i7 above 2.3GHz already it may not provide the best value for money. But for a DC i5 it is well worth it. With the Nvidia 5400 option is also recognized in Lightroom for GPU acceleration.

Excellent upgrade! best mobile Ivy Bridge CPU.

I installed this processor in my Alienware M17x R4 Oc'd @ 4.1 GHz on all cores. The processor runs hotter than the original 3630QM so a better thermal paste is a must. I also upgraded the stock CPU fan to the M14 R2 fan , the jump from 2.0CFM to 10.4 CFM made a huge cooling improvement. The previous 3630QM was not fast enough for the 980M in CPU-heavy games.
The OS seemed snappier and a little bit faster. I noticed huge gains on Microsoft FSX and 3DMark fire strike physics score.
This Processor might be 3 years old, but it will blow away all the new BGA trash (some Haswell and Skylake CPUs).

Best processor my notebook can use

The i7-3940XM isn't the best notebook processor around any more, but it's the best one my notebook can use. Stepping up from a 3.2 GHz processor, this one boosted performance by 20-30 percent (depending on the task). Things that made my notebook chug before now don't push it nearly as hard, which I love. If you're rocking a lesser processor and can use this one, I recommend it. And don't hate; appreciate.Read full review...

Alienware M17X R4 upgrade

I bought this CPU to replace my i7-3610qm for my alienware M17X R4, installation was pretty easy. Once installed, everything worked, I could already notice a difference in startup times, it's slightly faster now. The cpu has also been performing wonderful in cpu-heavy games or applications. Overall great upgrade.Read full review...

Plug & Play

Easy install and stable over clock via bios A15. Just changed voltages after “tier 3” over clock and good to go. My alienware m17x r4 has a 65w max so set from 55w to 64.9w.
