A fast, quiet hard drive.

I bought this hard drive as a storage drive. It has a large enough capacity and is fast. Although it whines when I turn my PC on, it is quiet when it's running. The F3 drives make that noise when they spin up and it is a little worrying till you get used to it as it sounds faulty! I like it because it is fast and quiet and I'm thinking of getting a smaller capacity F3 for my system volume. It is faster than my other terabyte drive and unlike some manufacturers, I didn't find a long list of failures when I searched for them on the Internet.Read full review...

A Fast but Quiet Hard Drive - Ideal for External Use

My main machine is a quad core running Windows 7. I needed an external 1TB backup on which to back up a system image and all files - just in case of a hard drive failure.

I bought this drive and, separately, I bought a caddy with a plug in power supply. I inserted the drive in the caddy, attached the plug in power supply, plugged the USB lead into a USB port and I was away.

Although 7200 rpm it is surprisingly quiet after the initial start up noise (I later discovered that this start up noise is a 'feature' of the drive and not a fault) It has a cache of 32MB (which is a lot) and the transfer speed is high. Easy to use and setup, loads of extra storage when i need it.cheap too.

i bought this product to give me some extra storage on my aging pc.
It was easy to install all I needed extra was a sata cable and a power adapter lead, formatting was easily carried out using windows xp (compmgmt.msc)after making necessary changes in the bios.
It took about an hour then it was all done ready to use.
the disk drive is not as fast as i thought it would be, but it is quick enough to store edited videos which was what I really needed it for. overall I am happy with this product.Read full review...

Very good value item from a top ebayer.

I bought this drive because it was the one that a certain magazine thought was the best buy.

I now have 2 of them and so far they are working very well.

1TB SATA for £42 is really good value and if they prove to be as reliable as they are supposed to be I will be very pleased.

The performance is the best I have ever had and that includes quite a few 7200 rpm IDE drives.Read full review...

Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ (1 TB, SATA III, 32MB) HDD

No problems that was not able to resolve in some way.
I got it to use as a storage drive for music and films.
When first installed with a running hdd it was not detected, had to use it as an external hdd and not as an internal as I would have like to unless I removed the boot drive which would have made hard work as had win 7 preinstalled.

You'd be hard pressed to find cheaper backup and storage, slow for video.

For storage and back ups its damn good at a very good price, if you are looking to use it to be watching movies off it then be ready for a few freeze frames - overall no complaints but next time I would go for a faster rpm and use this for backing up, but for the price good valueRead full review...
