I love this camera
I bought this camera for general YouTube video making. It is easy to use, small enough to not be a hassel to carry around, and the quality is excellent. I've used it extensively in just the past 2-3 months and have had zero problems with it. My only suggestion to buyers is to get a back up battery if you plan on using the LCD much as it drains it pretty quickly. I didn't think I would enjoy the tapes, but now I like them more than the memory stick camcorder I had before! This isn't the best for photo's but DUH! It's a camcorder! if you want pictures, buy a digital camera! The best is how easy it is to upload my video's to my computer. Hook in the firewire and BAM, right into Windows Movie Maker for editing.

Good Quality Video
THE GOOD - The Samsung SC D23 is a good camcorder for the money. The night mode is excellent for low light levels, much better than some of the later Samsung models. The SC D23 has a fire wire port. This makes video editing quit easy using software’s such as CyberLink Power Director.
THE BAD - This model has had a history of problems with the CCD chip. They tend to fail with little or no warning. I had my first one (bought brand new) for about 3 years before it failed, but it failed on our first trip to Disney world with our 3 year old. I ran out and bought the Samsung SC D372(junk)to fill in.
The UGLY? - There is a date range for the production of this model that Samsung will fix or replace free of any charge including S&H. If you find your camcorder will play videos back through the viewfinder and the screen, but you see nothing but "snow" when in the record mode you probably have a defective CCD. Don't get ugly with Samsung (1-800-726-7864) just be persistent. Samsung replaced mine with the SC D372 (my choice, at the time didn't offer to repair the old one and I had a pile of mini DVs to transfer) they did offer me several models to choose from.
OVERALL - Good Camcorder. I am getting rid of my SC D372 and have purchased a used SC D23 because of the decent video and sound and the great low light capabilities, indoors and out.Read full review...
Review of Samsung SC-D23 by Antimatter
First, the shape of the SC-D23 is what I like best. Most of the other brands do not have a very appealing look. I do a lot of website programming and there is a lot of art involved in designing a website. The design of a product is important to me as well. The SC-D23 has a lot of features. Night vision is a must for me. It works well at close range. I also use it with my computer. This makes high speed interfacing a must. The SC-D23 has Firewire, USB, and S-video I/O ports. More than I can say about comparably priced alternatives. It seems to work well. Very well. I think this camcorder is under rated.
Summary:
While the SC-D23 is by no means 'top of the line', for the money ya can't go wrong. It has many important features and it has true beauty in its design. I give it a thumbs up with a score of 8. Thanks Samsung!Read full review...
good camera .. but not perfect
Ofcourse this is not a Cannon. but its not a bad camcorder. It has very good features and you can do almost anything that you every wanted to do with a camcorder. It is very lite and the image stabilizer works really good. One of the biggest problems I have faced with this one is that whenever I try to zoom in and out very fast the image loses its focus and you could lose that important moment you are trying to capture.
I would say this is a near perfect outdoor camera. Indoors it has sever handicap about most things. The still image recorder is really poor quality. At best you can use the still pics for thumbnail photographs. Very good "value of for money" product though. I think this is a very good starting camcorder until you get really hung up on this technology and want to upgrade to SONY or a cannon.Read full review...
Video camcorder
I have one already and the LCD screen busted, actually just the ribbon that connects through the swivel spot. So I bought another one cause I liked the first one. The only problems I've had is sometimes during playback the screen gets random pixels (i.e. dirt on cassette head...) Usually a head cleaner works, but it seems like they have a sure fire tendency to do this. And it's not just on the camera, even if it's hooked up to computer/TV/ or VCR it still does it.Read full review...
Good little camcorder w/0 lux ability-infrared
Good little camera, does a lot and doesn't cost much now, has infrared night vision so you can video in 0lux. Stylewise it is not big as the SONY HI Eight but not as small as some of the comparable minidv,s. Samsung loaded these with lots of good features, more than most of us will use. camcorder
just got this, wanted to go this route as i am new to digital camcorders and didn't want to shell out money for something that was gonna be smarter than i am. what a relief, this was easy to use and fun! set up was a breeze and after charging the battery, had very little trouble using this. could not be happier with this purchase. it will be interesting to see if buying this "second hand": will have any effect on life expectancy of unit.Read full review...
Great Camera but beware of the ccd defect
I love my SCD-23. Samsung replaced mine with the exact model after they lost a class action lawsuit over the defective ccd that came with most. They were quite aware of the problem but were in denial. It took me years to get justice but I finally did.
I have used my Samsung for broadcast news video and the results were great.It functions fantastic in low light. Can take an external mic. and has most of the features of the latest cameras, though it came before HD.
Be aware though that it uses a Sony Memory Stick for still pics. That memory is now obsolete, and the few remaining in circulation are expensive.Read full review...
really nice, records well
needed it to record barrel races, (horses) camera does a good job, except the auto focus at a disrance doesn't seem to work, which for the most part isn't an issue with what we use it for. Easy to use, light weight and compact.Read full review...
Samsung SCD 23
I love the night Vision capability. The digital zoom is good along with the different types of filming it will do. Black and White, Mosiac, Mirror and etc. The firewire and AV functions are very usefull. The menu is easy to work along with focus. Light weight and pretty compact.Read full review...
