not as expected...

I decided to replace my old ageing laptop HDD, to one of these "supposed" faster ones, but you know what? although the performance is exactly the same as my old drive, and so far, touch wood, it hasn't fallen down, the speed was the main issue. I don't know if these SSHD drives are for more modern laptops, but my 4 year old Toshiba laptop hasn't noticed any speed difference at all. I haven't noticed any speed improvements, and that's kinda put a dampener on this drive - it doesn't boot up any faster, programs don't suddenly spring into life, a few milliseconds after opening, and my games that I play on the laptop don't seem to run faster. I'm not sure there's a hidden switch that must be turned on to give the drive a speed boost on the laptop, but so far, I haven't found one.... maybe my laptop is too old??
So, all in all, although the performance is more than adequate, the speed isn't something to write home about. If your looking for true speed performance, then i'm afraid this isn't one of he drives you should go for... Read full review...

Works fine - cloned my laptop without any issues at all

I bought this to 'clone' my aging laptop SSHD drive, and it worked fine. I downloaded the free Macrium Reflect software, and a complete clone was very easy to do, and took c.7 hours with no errors reported at all. I used the laptop USB 3.0 port and a cheap USB to SATA 3 cable (bought separately - one does not come with the drive).

The drive seems to be the same as my existing drive, and seems fast and quiet, but it is far too early to answer questions about reliability.Read full review...

Best of both worlds

Any SSHD is a hard drive but with a solid state cache to store and retrieve high-use files such as start-up files.
All SSHD's may appear normal HDD speed at first, this is because it has to learn your high-use files. After a few start-ups, things will start to speed up. These are great if you want a faster start-up but don't want to spend huge amounts on an equivalent sized SSD.
