Great version!!

This version of "Sense and Sensibility" is very entertaining!! The filming is wonderful ad the scenery is beautiful!!! Unfortunately, this differs very much from the book, and Elinor and Marianne are certainly too old for the roles of young ladies ages 19 and 17. I prefer the 1981 version with Irene Richard and Tracey Childs,although none can equal the book. Although the filming is not as a good of a quality, the storyline is much more faithful to the novel. Marianne is wonderful in that version, and Elinor is portrayed well in it too(both are evidently younger). However, this version comes close in my opinion,and one can take a glimpse at the enduring tale. You will definitely love the story told in "Sense and Sensibility"!!Read full review...

Best cinematic version I've seen

I have seen several versions of Sense and Sensibility, including from the BBC. This is the best of all of them and a must for any serious Jane Austen fan.

Sense and Sensibility (DVD, 1999)

This is an excellent DVD. I purchased it because I am trying to change all my movies from VHS format to DVD. (I already have had the VHS for years) It is my opinion that the picture is clearer on DVD than on VHS. I enjoy all movies based on books by Jane Austen. It reflects a time in English history that I greatly enjoy. I would compare this to my DVD of "Pride and Prejudice" (2006). THey are very similar to me because they have actors, scenery and screenwriting that I think is excellent. This is a movie that I will watch many times as it's message is timeless.Read full review...

Sense & Sensibility high praise to Jane Austen

Another wonderfully adapted movie from yet another great story by Jane Austen!
This movie was perfectly cast, each character being true to the original intent of the authoress. The story compellingly tells of the times and the adversities suffered because of the "male only can inherit" thinking and law of the period. How a very loving and valiant family survived the loss of everything and throughout the complexities of the story line prevailed.
The story shows the smallness and greediness contrasted with the selflessness and loving steadfastness familiar through all of Jane's intricately composed stories.
It was a joy to watch and a nice addition to my library of Pride and Prejudice and Emma.
I know that anyone who enjoys Jane Austen would love this movie! I highly recommend it!Read full review...
