Luckey is outstanding

This CD is the true definition of "conscious reggae." I love the rythyms and the lyrics. They are just tasteful, political, and brilliant. In my opinion, the CD cover is very deceiving in that it could make you beleive that it's a "fun" CD, perhaps one to listen to as you stroll the beaches in Jamaica. But not so, at all! Every time I listen to the lyrics, I feel as thought I am drawn into the South African villages and can feel the struggles of my African brothers. The first time I played this CD, I thought of Luckey Dube and his tragic death, and I cried. For someone unaware of South Africa's past struggles, they would just enjoy listening to the music. The songs have a steady mid-range tempo and there is at least one song that is an up-beat love song that's very catchy. Another song that I assume was written and dedicated to his son, is very touching, and has a beautiful and very soft classic piano background. This is the kind of CD that you listen to while working on the computer, cleaning your car or your house. Unlike some of my other reggae CDs, I find that I can listen this CD repeatedly without getting tired of it. The songs have a roots rythym while lyrics are about old south african oppression. This is an older CD, but even in 2008, it's rythyms are timeless and I love it.Read full review...

Nice Mix

This is somewhat of a "best of" cd with a couple of live songs. It has a nice mix of older stuff like "Slave and Prisioner" and some newer stuff like " House of Exile and Victims".
