Watching Paul Giamatti play the bad guy is a treat all in itself.

Shoot 'Em Up slipped under my radar when it was originally released, and the loss is definitely mine. It's an action movie that skews a little - or a lot - from the normal course of the genre; sometimes blatantly out Bonding Bond but at times also quiet and even tender.
Clive Owen and Monica Bellucci are the movie's emotional core, but circling them like a shark with an empty belly is Paul Giamatti. Hertz, the criminal mastermind, takes every opportunity given to remind his minions that he is indeed a mastermind - and they, obviously, are just minions.
