Clear sounding headphone, comfortable, excellent understated design that focuses on actual build quality

great all around headphone, but I switch back to my Focal One S when I am listening to hip hop or other music that's heavily synthesized.

Like others have said, it's bass performance is "lacking", and you cannot correct it with equalizer either, crank up low frequency will end up with distortion at even low amount of boost.

Other down side I saw from other reviewer is it's weight. I wear a XL or XXL helmet, so I am used to carrying weight with my neck. so if you have a fat head line me, you will be fine with it's weight.

aside from listed "problems" above, I will probably end up using this set about 80% of the time when I am working by my computer, it's absolutely wonderful when listening to classical or jazz with it. This headphone shows much more detail in every music it plays, with no "round offs" or boost of any kind, just reproducing what was going on the other side of the mic.

I use a FIIO E18 amplifier along with this headphone, so you experience may vary if you are not driving it with an external amp.

Bought for our acoustic society board man...kept it for myself... ordering another

This model was recommended by a friend who works on the sound crew at another acoustic society. We needed to do something about the sound mix at our venue. Our board man is located in the back corner where acoustics are horrible. His mixes were terrible as attested by recording the board one night. I bought the Shure SRH840 and tried them out at home. Oh my.... what great sound! The CDs I played sounded like I was right there among the instruments and singers. The isolation was great, keeping outside sounds to a minimum.

I had our board man use them last week and found the mix to be much better. It really pointed up how bad things were back there in the corner. Nevertheless, I decided to keep this set for myself and watch for another set on eBay for the sound guys at our acoustic society. They can borrow mine in the meantime.

I expected to find them uncomfortable after awhile, but after spending an afternoon on the computer with them on I had pretty much forgot about the headphones but thoroughly enjoyed the music. It wasn't until I removed the headphones did I give any thought to whether they were comfortable. It was then I realized just how comfortable they were.

Very "True To Life" Phones.Amazing Studio Quality Sound

Since my old Sony headphones got broken, I purchased Philips HD (open backs)phones which were pretty good for a while, until the right phone stopped working for no reason.
Since then I did 1 month research, before my next (hopefully last for some reasonable period of time) purchase.
I decided to go with SRH840 and JEEE, they are so far the best I could expect.
They are closed backs, but there is no lack in breathing, like in many others dynamic closed backs.
The sound detail is so true to life, that is hard to imagine better.
They sound great on my BlackBerry phone, as well as on my SONY home theather and my proffesional bass and guitar amps.
When listen on a PC with Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum sound card they may lack of bass and hights (too much midrange is exposed).
But, if You are using the player with equalizer (i.e WinAmp), You are able to tweak them to a VERY PLEASANT sound.
Some people don't like the design, but I love it.
Heavy duty professional material provides both: comfort and big-bucks looks.
They are tight, so You don't have to press them against Your head to hear all the frequencies coming from the recording.
My best home headphones so far.
I've seen people listen to the music on the street with full-size phones, so You may also find them perfect for the outside.
I highly recommend them to anyone, who expects the best in comfortable listening.

High quality, durable earphones.

These are high quality, durable earphones that gives you clear sounds at a fairly high volume. Base and treble sounds are all clear as can be but does start to distort a little when the volume levels are too high, but before you reach that limit, you get more than enough volume with crystal clear sound out of them, . . you don't really need more than that. When listening to music the individual sounds of the instruments are clear and does not influence each other. For the price you get a great set of earphones for daily and normal use. It tends to become a little heavy and sometimes feel the pressure against your head when you wear it for longer periods of time but because of its tightness it 'seals' over your ears to block outside sounds and as a result get a clear sound of what you are listening to without any interference. When putting it on and taking it off constantly, the earphones' adjustments does tend to move and does not always stay the same, so very often you have to adjust it again before you put it back on. While it is on, it does not move. Again, these are really good quality made earphones that will last you for a very long time. The pads are soft over the ears and they also have the look of a quality set of earphones. Worth every penny. I am happy with what I bought for this price and glad that I decided on these.Read full review...

Great for the money, good for any money

I bought these phones primarily for classical and pops music from my computer. They are as good as any I have heard, with little coloration or distortion and a flat response. I've listened thru them to playback from a high-end processor and older Krell equipment as well as my MacBook Pro (which of course does color the music more than the other sources). And the phones are comfortable, at least for me. For comfort, I prefer them to my in-ear phones (etymotic hf2). The latter also sound fine, altho perhaps less dynamic. But they are cover the sound spectrum smoothly and with good air at the top. I highly recommend both. wmRead full review...

nice set of pro grade phones, watch for that keyboard player swiping them!

When I bought these I was in search of the best affordable live sound headphones I could find.
Dave Ratt did a shootout:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHkb4bhdnRA
and these came up VERY near the top of the heap. They are lightweight and handle about a watt of power. They get loud enough to hear over a screaming PA (AND audience). They cover the entire ear and isolate quite well. A decent length search on eBay and you can find them in the 100 buck range. They have a coiled wire and that tends to get wadded up easily BUT, that keeps it off the floor and keeps you from stepping on it and dragging these off the sound console. I'm 50/50 on the coiled cord thing. Also the cord is replaceable (nice) but you have to make sure the twist connector is completely twisted in place on the ear cup or there's no sound. I have to check that every time these come out. Shure gives you a spare set of ear cushions which I've seen NO other seller do.

The main thing is the sound is FLAT as a ruler.
Put these on, listen to the music you chose, then lift them off your head and compare it to what the PA sounds like. That's where the flat response works for you, no frequencies are hyped or diminished.
As always, mix like it matters!

Absolutely Brilliant !!

I use these true to life sounding and high quality built headphones daily.
I run them with a high quality sound card in my extremely nice self built computer.
They are very comfortable and versatile. They are also hundreds of dollars less than some other brands... check out the detailed specs between these SHURE h-phones and say Sein******.
You cannot beat this deal of the amazing sound vs. price point.
If you are in the market for a set of headphones like these... you would be a fool not to give them a test drive.

Wow are these ever top notch

This is a pro unit all the way, comfortable for long wearing periods, picks up even hight frequency sounds. Found flaws that I had not detected on cheaper cans.

Nice pair of cans!

I needed a new pair of headphones fast. I use mine on a daily basis, since I am involved in running a small recording studio AND do a lot of live sound engineering. When I saw these headphones, I was intrigued. The more I read about them, the more I was sold. When I found them on eBay at a "can't say no" price, that was the clincher. However, there's no way I could've expected to be so pleased with the actual performance of these SRH840's! Extremely balanced reproduction, and very comfortable to wear too! The only thing that could've been better was maybe a bit more length on the coiled cord, but that's a very minor thing! All in all, one of my better audio purchases this year!Read full review...

Shure srh840

Bought the shure srh840 and the srh940 just to try them out and if worthy then add them to my collection. I figured I'd only keep one and sell the other but I decided to keep both I do enjoy the 940 more because of better detail retrieval and treble extension, but the 840 is no slouch, they are both very neutral the 840 having a bit of a bass boost but this is only due to the ear pads if you put the velour pads from the 940 onto the 840 it loses some bass and sound very similar to the 940 but still not as detailed or extended. I would highly recommend either pair, they both have tight clean bass, very nuetral, and excellent imaging and soundstage the 940 does a little bit better in the imaging and soundstage department as well.Read full review...
