Silent Hill Horror!!!

Pros
+ Creepy monsters, effects, & atmosphere.
+ Not the same Silent Hill. New back story that explores more of Silent Hill than before.
+ Better combat system but still no where near perfect.

Cons
- 1st person gameplay tends to be a bit sluggish & makes things harder on the player.
- Only one boss battle.
- Some puzzles can be difficult to solve.

Comments
Silent Hill 4 explores a variety of creepy levels & has quite a new style when it comes to the demonic creations within the game. The style leans much more towards Japanese horror films. There are many creepy sights to see in the game that may shock you.

Verdict
Must play for any survival horror fan. Must have for any Silent Hill fan.

Silent Hill 4 (Xbox) - GREAT GAME!

I want to warn you that this review is going to be highly bias because I happen to be a huge fan of the Silent Hill series. But anyway, please do trust that this review is honest and let me assure you that you can use this review, fan of SH or not, in your decision to buy this game.
Silent Hill 4 for the Xbox is a great game simply because it delivers in every aspect: gameplay, graphics, intrigue, storyline, and overall enjoyment.
The only complaint I have about this game is that Konami added a few tedious things to this installment like a Ghost monster and the fact that your inventory is limited and you must make use of the inventory box in your apartment.
The Ghosts are really annoying and they pop up at the most inconvenient times. You cant shoot them with your gun, you'd be just wasting ammo. And the worst part is that your life goes down when your around them even if you're not being hit by them which is really stupid and annoying.
The lack of item storage is the other complaint and its a complaint of mine because in every other SH game, unlimited inventory slots have always been part of the games. Instead, you must go back and forth to the inventory box in your apartment when your inventory gets full. Also, if you have, and you will have, multiple boxes of ammo for the same gun, they each take up a space in your personal inventory. Which sucks...majorly.

But after everything that I don't like about this game, the overall enjoyment and overall experience is totally worth it. This game is awesome and its the perfect addition to any Silent Hill fan's collection or to any fan of survival horror games and the Xbox.

Silent Hill 4: The Room

Silent Hill 4 isn't as good as some of the other games in the "Silent Hill" series. But if you're a fan of the series, you'll enjoy it. SH4 has some new elements, such as both first and third person perspectives and a greater emphasis on combat. There are also "ghosts," which harass you throughout the game, are impossible to kill and very difficult to even incapacitate.

As in the rest of the games in the "Silent Hill" series, the puzzles are tough (and not always 100% logical). The music and the story are top notch, which fans of the series will be used to. One of the "drags" of the game is that you repeat the same five levels twice--the second time you do so with an injured person who has to be protected and moves at a slow pace. The ghosts and the villain (who are pretty much "unkillable") also make some segments of the game pretty darn difficult to get through, especially with an injured person in tow. There are four seperate endings possible depending on how you play the game. There's only one really "happy" ending. The rest are varying degrees of...unpleasant.

At the beginning of the game, you find yourself locked in your apartment with no way to escape. You can see the world through your windows, the peephole in your front door and another peephole someone drilled through to your pretty neighbor's room. This makes for a very claustrophobic and somewhat voyeuristic experience. You're trapped in your apartment--except for a strange hole that suddenly appears in your bathroom wall. By crawling through that hole in the bathroom wall you find yourself in a surreal realm where grotesque creatures attack you and the other "normal" people who are unlucky enough to find their way there. That realm is Silent Hill. As the game progresses, more and more of the "strangeness" of Silent Hill invades the "normal" world you take refuge in between levels. But to solve the game you have to venture to Silent Hill again and again. On top of the ghosts and bizarre creatures, there's a serial killer on the loose in this otherworldly realm. He's looking for sacrifices. And it seems that death has only slowed him down...

Good game, can be better

I always liked monsters and puzzle games, just like this.

It isn't as good as Resident Evil or previous Silent Hill Games, but is good and i like playing it.

The ghosts and monsters can be hard in some parts of the game, and it has a lot of puzzles to solve. It's not the game like you kill and you'll be fine... You need to kill, but you need to think too... Because if you don't think, you can't pass throughRead full review...

I'M WALTER SULLIVAN

this was my introduction to these games, and i ADORE it. i was hooked from the first time. i love how it messes with your head. i never saw the ending though, so i recently got this game for ps2 for $15 from newbury comics. it hasn't gotten much play though, cuz the first time i played it i was with my friend, and now i'm usually in my dark room, alone. plus it's my first time on normal diff. and those sniffers take like ten whacks with the pipe, and i'm not about to waste any ammo on those little turds. =\ RIDICUROUS! anywho..

this game is stunning. the graphics are beautifully disgusting, the music & sounds make your skin crawl... the word of the day is ATMOSPHERE! and there's plenty of it here.

the plot. you are henry townsend. one day you wake up to find you can't get out of your apartment. the door is locked & chained from the inside. the windows won't budge. no one can hear you. as you search for some clue as to what's going on, you find a hole in your bathroom wall. i won't say any more, cuz you HAVE TO PLAY THIS GAME! it's REQUIRED of everyone.

puzzles-o-plenty here. you'll be scratching your scalp raw trying to figure them out. the areas are HUGE! exploration plays a big, biiig part in this game, as does beating the crap out of the many, many monsters you encounter along the way. you'll travel from a subway, to a forest, prison, apartment building, EEEVERYWHERE. you'll encounter lots of interesting (and some twisted) characters. save your energy drinks and health items, you're gonna need 'em.
you'll need a keen eye to spot essential items, as half the time they don't stick out like in most games. explore explore explore. that's the key to victory. you're gonna HATE the ghosts. haaaaaaaaate.

in closing, the silent hill series is one of the best out there today. no collection is complete without them. pick this one up. you won't be disappointed. you'll be scared shitless, but not disappointed. (hey, at least pyramid head isn't in this one, creepy bastard)

Silent Hill 4: The Room

I have played the other games in this series and found them hard to play. By that I mean, the controls were difficult to use. I am handicapped by a shaking disorder, particularly in my hands and using the controls in the older games were difficult.

Silent Hill 4: The Room for XBox is OUTSTANDING! The game is more user-friendly, especially with the controls. It's a creepy game and more than once it has made me jump. If you like a game that has a lot of strategy and you have to use your BRAIN to figure where and how to go to the next area; you'll like this one.

I'm about half-way through it and haven't found anything to dislike about it. It's a keeper game and one that gets harder and harder to figure out as you advance through the levels.

Good so far

Silent Hill 4 has turned out to be what I expected it to be - a decent game that will give you a good scare. I was looking for a creepy game to play that was not completely corny and I found it. Silent Hill really creeps me out sometimes, and it's just really intense to play. Graphics aren't bad, and you're always on the end of your seat. It's not a bad purchase if you decide to buy it.Read full review...
