Foo Fighter Branch Out

Foo Fighters released their companion CD for their Cable series by the same name. Dave and the guys went to several American cities to immerse themselves in the unique musical history and culture of that city and wrote and recorded a song in each, reflecting what they experienced. The sum of the parts is a thoroughly engaging collection of songs somewhat different from what we've come to expect from them. This collection feels a little calmer and more studied than the wild eyed exuberance we're used to. At least part of why I like it so much is because I got so much out of watching the series. It was "Appointment Television" at the Franklyn Ponderosa. Artful lyrics, unusual rhythms abound, but hey, It's still Foo Fighters. Ear splitting guitar work, though still present, feels more mature and controlled and Dave still screams at times, but with a guided hand this time out. I enjoyed it a lot and recommend it to any punk fan. It's out there enough to keep you interested, while subdued enough for Pop fans to get a handle on.
