Sweet spot for price, quality, features for serious amateur

I had done some fairly extensive reading on the reviews of this camera and concur that this is a great entry into digital photography for a serious amateur. The price, quality, and feature set is just right.
In particular, I was looking for a quality 20+ MP APS-C sensor, RAW image capture, viewfinder, interchangeable lenses, full manual to full automatic focus & exposure, small size (thus mirrorless), all for a reasonably low price.

Amazing mirrorless camera, great value!

The Sony a6000 is a great value and an amazing camera! The full-size APS-C sensor (same as DSLRs) gets plenty of dynamic range and does a good job at keeping noise at bay when it gets dim. The burst mode is amazingly fast and the buffer is large enough to hold a large burst, but make sure to get a fast memory card since the camera can write up to 35 MB/s and you will want that to avoid taking a long time to save bursts. (You can't change some settings or review photos while the camera is still saving photos.)

You get used to the interface within a week and there is a nice custom menu as well as remappable buttons. There are 2 dials that are used for the usual functions, with some remappability. The camera has an electronic viewfinder that is clear and bright, but oddly enough parts of the interface seem squished compared to the display, and there is no display mode for the viewfinder that hides everything but the picture. The proximity sensor for the viewfinder is a bit too sensitive, so holding the camera close to your body might disable the display when you didn't mean to. The display doesn't get as bright as 2016 smartphones like the Samsung S7, but it's still workable in daylight. The display tilts, but not all the way around to take selfies, which is a bit disappointing.

The camera has a built-in flash that you can tilt for ceiling bounces as well as a "smart hotshoe" for flashes and external microphones. The camera has a decent battery life and recharges over MicroUSB, so you can use phone chargers for it, which is very convenient. If you have an Android phone, the camera has NFC, so you can tap to send a picture to your phone in 30 seconds.

The a6000 has a few weaknesses. Video from the camrea is very high quality and the manual controls work well, but the camera is not capable of 4K video nor using 3.5mm external microphones. The lens system has all the lenses you would need, but used lenses will not be as cheap or plentiful as the four thirds system that Panasonic and Olympus use. And you should not expect this to fit in all but the largest pockets (consider the RX100 series for pocketable cameras).

AWESOME CAMERA

Its easily 5 stars because of the price! I shopped around to try and find a good deal and it took me weeks but I'm so glad I waited. The Camera is really easy to use from beginners and professionals alike. I truly love the camera and the 4K quality, its crystal clear and the mic picks up great audio. Great value for the price

The a6000 is a great camera, very easy to use and the wifi feature is great. The bundle you get with the camera is an incredible added value for the price.

Good value in 2020 for less than 500 dollars.

The picture is a little dark. After trying some picture profile, I found the "light" setting make the picture (and video) look best. I wish Sony will release the firmware that allow the user take picture in Video Mode. For now, in the Video Mode, the shutter release button is Useless. Why, Sony ? That is a stupid decision !Read full review...

A lot of camera in a small package

Was looking for a small camera, when I'm cycling, high resolution, 11 frames per second, plus adding the 20 mm pancake lens wide angle, made it the perfect point and shoot camera, better options then canon T3i. Powerful little camera!Read full review...

Great photos and lightweight!

Excellent photo qualities and features (of which I haven't tapped into fully!). I love its size and weight and the power that it has despite that.

all the power of dslr in a compact size

The size and weight of this camera really makes it easy to take to more places. The auto focus is great and the stabilization of the lens is great for lower light shots. I really enjoy this camera.

Great camera for the price

Bought this camera because we are going on vacation and wanted a better camera than our phones. We are no professionals by any means but this camera allows you to take great quality pictures very easily. And the package includes a lot of things we wanted, given they aren't the highest quality, for the layman photographer they work just fine.Read full review...
