Great value for anyone interested in using lenses from the '80s and '90s.

I wanted to get a Sony DSLR for lens compatibility with Minolta AF and I'm not dissapointed in that regard. The picture is great, works well with all the old lenses I've tried, and has plenty of features. I don't find it horribly heavy or uncomfortable to use from a weight perspective, however the articulated LCD tends to stick out a little more than I'd like and I'm often finding my nose pressed against it when using the viewfinder. Given the condition of the unit I received, I'd say I got a pretty good deal on it, but if I had the chance to go back, I'd probably look longer and harder at the a230 or a330 for a little more features. The LCD generally provides "poor" image representation in LiveView, and I never use it. So the 230 would probably suit my needs perfectly.Read full review...

Defective LCD is no problem

You can get a generic replacement for the LCD for under $10, including the two small tools needed for the job. There are videos online that show exactly how to do it. The whole repair took only a few minutes. The savings makes the repair well worth it.Read full review...

I would recommend it if you can get it for a decent price.

I had this camera before, I broke the LCD (literally) and bought another camera body.

Good:
Just the fact that I bought the same camera body means I like it. Good images, still only 10 MP, so if you want a bit more resolution look for another model. Nice basic settings buttons on the back, nice grip (my finger tips barely hit the body while holding the camera). You can tilt the LCD so you can take photos from multiple positions. Shoots RAW... Good value for the price I paid.

Original battery lasts... forever :). I have 2x4GB and 1x2GB cards, and with one full battery charge I can fill them up with about 800-1000 images, RAW format.

Bad:
I miss the full rotating LCD. Only 10 MP resolution (I don't shoot landscapes, and don't print large images, so it's more than enough for me - I can just see while using my sharp 50 mm lens, that the sensor could have a higher resolution).

Sony A300, Easy to Use, Fun to shoot, Crisp, clean pictures tight grain.

I was a photographer in the 70's and 80's. Used everything from a Nikon F3 to a Mymia 645. This is my first Sony Digital experience. The work used back then couldn't come out with pictures as crisp and tight grained as these. I get compliments all the time on my photography and I can't take the credit like I use to when I needed to adjust lighting, aperture, and shutter settings to say the least. The Sony Alpha series, especially the A300, is the easiest SLR Digital Camera with great pictures with low effort.Read full review...

Good camera. Good value.

The Sony a300 camera is a good 10 Mpixel camera. Image stabilisation is handled in the camera body thus you can use cheap Minolta AF lenses. The sensor is noisy at high Iso settings which is to be expected for 12 year old technology ...
Overall a great value.
