Bit different to the norm.

Never seen this Sony model before, I'm assuming it was not sold or over marketed in the UK. This one is a fine example it's in absolutely MINT condition and came with everything that was with it when new around 16 years ago. It has some amazing features that even modern cameras don't have, such as night mode that enables you to take pictures in complete darkness and is brilliant for Astral photography for all the star gazers. So all in all very happy with my purchase. Read full review...

A true classic camera for little money.

Introduced in 2002 the F717 was one of the first cameras to hit the magic 5 mega pixel mark, was packed with a lot of features and came with a heavy price tag. Now 10 years later this camera is still sort after and loved by thousands of owners. I am a total amateur photographer and I love the F717 simply because it takes great photographs. There are 2 reasons for this; firstly the F717 is a bridge camera so you can easily hold it at different heights and angles whilst shooting. This makes the camera very comfortable to use and tends to make you concentrate more on the composition of what you see in the LCD. Secondly the great Carl Zeiss lens which easily compensates for the lack of pixels. I use a cheap printer and standard A4 paper and have no complaints over the density or colour of my photos. Just leave it on automatic and shoot. There is one feature that deserves special mention that is the night vision on this model. This works and produces some interesting photos, plus a lot of fun in total darkness. Across the internet are many personal reviews praising this camera, the one that impressed me the most was written by a professional photographer. He had happily used his Sony for many years, but started to feel uneasy about having such an old camera. So he upgraded to a top of the range Nikon. Now some 4 years later he still finds himself putting down the Nikon and using the Sony on professional shoots. I think that says it all.Read full review...

who needs more than 5mp with a lens like this

Bought one again after my original one was stolen, super lens with macro down to 2cm focus for terrific close ups. Nothing to dislike but remember these bridge cameras are only suitable for still subjects the write time and shutter lag are too slow for moving objects pick a SLR instead.finally don`t be fooled by 5mp this is more than enough for superb A4 prints, skin tones and colour rendering are excellent(reds tend to saturate a little) results pin sharp straight out of the camera. The body swivelling from the lens is very handy. Don`t buy one unless the CCD has been replaced by Sony they had a fault in nearly all of the cameras supplied to the UK the camera would not take an image a black screen was quite usual, they did repair them free even out of warranty.Read full review...

Digital photo camera with many functions

I am pleased with this bargain. All preceding information was correct. I receiced the camera in excellent condition for its age and together with all offered equipment.
I decided to buy this digital camera because it has optics with the best quality and its photo objective could be sited in many positions for corps of camera. As well its microphone are excellent for getting sound of movies with good quality.
I hope that this camera will serve for a long while and I could get really nice pictures of insects, lichens, birds, landscapes and, of course, people.

A Sony Piste de Resistance

My career as a professional photographer began in 1954 using glass quarter plate negatives in a Field camera and 120 roll film in a Rolliecord 111 camera. However, some five years ago, I resigned myself to the inevitable predominance of digital photography and purchased a then new Sony DSC-F717. My choice of this camera was wholely influenced by the Carl Zeis Vario Sonnar lens chosen by Sony. The imagery achievable with this lens can only be described as superb and far exceeded my expectations. If you are interested in close up (macro) work then this camera will "cut the mustard". I have since purchased a second camera, ex e-bay as a reserve, and at £105.00 it was a bargain. Out of interest, A3 size prints are readily achievable and the imagery compares very, very favourably with that obtained using my Leica M8! If you seek a comparatively low cost, versatile digital camera which is capable of producing professional results then this could be the camera for you. Never mind the pixels - it's the quality of the lens that counts!Read full review...

Sony Dsc-717

These cameras have been around a few years now costing over £400 new. Now you can pick up this camera at bargain prices on ebay.

In its day a camera with 5mp was at the top. Today that is much standard on mobile phones.

However with its Carl Zeis lens and 10x combined magnification this takes stunning pictures every time.

This was probably the only camera to come with infra red night shooting. Basically take pictures in total darkness.

The only problem for these cameras today is getting compatible memory.

New and modern memory sticks won't work with these cameras only the old light blue sticks.

But there is still batteries and other accessories around.

Sony's art of state-DSC F717Legend becomes alive if You are still curiuous

As old-fashioned guy from an era, when me, in my teen age, started my photo hobbying, as inheritance of my Dad (thnx to him!)-using Lomo, but not that expensive accessory to stay in trend- it was camera obscura БелОМО USSR camera, and later, when Dad bought me Zenit 11, I got several very nice photos-maybe its a mission itself? just like after the BREAKING THE WALL,- I realize in ourdays,-its time to take in hands again something classical, able to challenge all those Hi-Tech digital SLR's and even cameraphones with 12+Mpxto. So, did it my SONY DSC F717 now!(fixed and workaround) I felt very pleased...like teleportation through the times and eras... I collected lot of info about IR photography, because children growth up oh so fast, and fathers has more time...right time for revitalizing hobbying- and there it is- first, I bought SONY alpha A100...what can I say?- Yes, I got also nice photos with alpha, but if You could only imagine, how it is time consuming and harrasing sometimes! You'll never start from it, trust me! All this Headake gone now with F717, and further even more fun- with it's infrared shooting mode, called Nightshot, featured inside. Taking stunning pics and simultaneously wondering how can one man feel so good, shooting with 2003 y.made camera! You will feel like Master and his horse! Intuitive, nice, robot-like designed, unbelievable great shot of positive emotions You will be filled-up! Believe- Probably, You have nothing to compare with this masterpiece of never more reborn multipurposal machine, because its the one and only camera with manufacturer built-in IR shooting option (just imagine that!) in combination with superb, I would say, unique noise free sensor. You know, f828 is.......So, thanks to SONY and all good people!Read full review...
