Love this camera! The lense and "scene" modes are excellent.

Love this camera, the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it's a bit bigger than what a "point & shoot" should be. I actually purchased the Canon Powershot SX500 first (from a store) and took it back before researching this camera and purchasing this one. The lense on this camera is amazing. The panorama feature is a plus, and there are excellent "scene" modes that make capturing a great picture very easy. I purchased this camera to take on a trip to Alaska, and am so excited to take photos now. One glitch I ran into was that because the lense can zoom so far, often times I have to back way up to zoom in to get the shot I want because the lense will not focus if I'm too close to the subject. Also it has a crazy strong flash which can wash faces/shots out so I purchased a diffuser which is on it's way now so I can't tell you how it works with the camera. The nice thing about it though is it takes great shots in low light situations...so often the photo is great without a flash. I wish the camera was smaller but it will be much easier than my big Nikon DSLR...there IS a belt camera bag that it will fit in, it's just on the bigger side.Read full review...

Camera

I shoot professional photography. Every now and then I want to carry a small point and shoot camera instead of my professional equipment. I own several point and shoot cameras. This camera is one of the best point and shoot cameras ever made. The quality pictures that it produces are fantastic. It is one of my favorite cameras to use. The zoom is fantastic with a great image stabilization . A great camera for anyone to own. There are newer model versions of this camera that I own, but this one is my favorite one. Thanks, JimRead full review...

A great camera that produces great images through a range of features.

After doing a great deal of research, my partner bought one of these brand new about a year ago. Within three weeks, she accidentally spilled salad oil on it and shortly thereafter, the camera slowed to a standstill. It has been sitting in a box on floor waiting to be sent back to "somewhere" to have it fixed ever since.

Well, after a year of waiting, I went on eBay and bought two of them; one for her, and one for me.
What an amazing piece of technology. I am not qualified to discuss relative aperture openings or shutter speeds, and as I use this camera more and more, I am blown away by its features, ease of use and quality of images.

And in case you're wondering, I also bought two camera cases to boot. No more dressing where it doesn't belong!

A pretty good point and shoot camera

I am an amateur photographer and use the camera for only vacation and family photos. I wanted a good zoom lens that would take good quality photos. I had a Canon sx 40 before this camera and did not like the photos that it produced. The images were not clear and appeared more like a glamor shot. I used to compare the images to an old Olympus camera I had and they were no where close to it's images (which were exceptional).I want a EVF in my camera and Olympus appears to have stopped putting them in their cameras or I would have bought another Olympus. So far I have been pleased with this camera. It's images are much better than the Canon but not quite as crisp as the Olympus. I compared this camera to others on the internet( Nikon 510, Fuji etc.) Critics point out that this does not record in RAW and does not have a hot shoe or a plug in for an external mic which were not important to me at my level of competency. Overall I like it and would recommend it to others except for the price. I shopped around though and got it for a very good price.Read full review...

Great P&S with features & res to make it fun to take pictures again.

Every year, I buy a point & shoot digicam to carry with me through the day. This year, I got a DSC-H70 for that purpose. HOWEVER, when the HX200v came out, I knew I had to have it for the special outings to replace my A200 & I am glad I did.
What if Sony never got Minolta's camera tech? I don't want to know because what they've done with it in DSLR, bridge and P&S cams is remarkable. This HX200 is pretty much everything you'd want short of a full DSLR kit and fills in what's missing from lesser P&S models.
Controls range from full manual (including focus & zoom# to full auto #except actually tripping the shutter... wait, there's one of the self timer options that'll do that#. A fine Ziess lens that handles macro @ 1.5cm to 30x tele.#equal to 800mm?# Physically light and pretty fast. After getting the basic still camera right, they tackled video the same way. From VGA through full 1080 #60 i). The smoothest digital video since minidv disappeared. Throw in Sony's now signature 3D features, GPS tagging and tracking and a bunch of fun effects and you've got a great package. A lot to learn but the in camera guide helps greatly. Some of the sections on functions have a link to the function which is quicker, in a way, than running through the menus. The DSC-HX200V proves that the "bridge" can be more fun than what's on either side of it.

Best deal out there for the forseeable near future!!

This was a wonderful upgrade from my 4 year old Canon S3IS.
Everything is nice about this camera, picture and video quality is superb. Zoom is awesome. Menu options and on screen menu are easy to follow. GPS adds to the functionality. The overall accessory package was very nice. I would recommend buying a 16 or 32 GB card and and external battery wall/car charger and a spare battery. I also found on e-bay a custom-sized hard LCD protector for 14.99 and that is a must in my opinion. No complaints.Read full review...
