Great for bloggers/beginners.

This camera, with it's optical steadyshot, Exmor R BSI sensor and 20x zoom, you should have no problem shooting great videos and pictures. Set to the highest setting (28m AVCHD 60P) the video image is very sharp and the color is on point. On downside is the apature is only f3.5 so low light video does suffer over a camera or camcorder that would have a f1.8 lens. Other then that this is a great choice for excellent video/pictures on a budget.Read full review...

Great zoom, but poor quality. Not a good value for money :(

I bought the camera as a gift, mostly for the big zoom capabilities.
It is our second camera, alongside a rugged Olympus that has limited zoom, but excellent quality.
The quality of pictures on the Sony HX20V is poor. When zooming in the pixels to 1:1 it is all grainy, even in low ISO. And it fails in comparison to when looking at 1:1 zoom-in of our tough Olympus (bare in mind the tough Olympus is meant to be tough and not high quality, but it still beats the Sony).
On the plus side, the Sony has a whole lot of features. We like to play around with the different HDR functions. The videos are excellent, back-light correction is interesting, and sweep panoramas are a treat (the Olympus for ex. doesn't have that feature).

I would recommend this camera for everyday shoots but no raw limits it.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V is a good little camera for those who just want a point and shoot camera. For those who ask for more control over shooting parameters, perfect images and for commercial use, this Sony is not the right camera for you.

The absence of RAW image ability and the small sensor makes this camera a good but not great camera. Yes, It has 18.2 mega pixels. That is not going to insure a great image. The sensor is just too small for the 18.2 mega pixels. It does an OK job via processing but not the best quality that is possible with a larger sensor.

The camera has a problem with being too warm (red cast)on certain colors especially yellows. The image can be adjusted in photoshop to correct the red cast, but it is there so you know.

The small image sensor also causes the image to be pixelated at larger views and if the image is cropped and blown up.
Not a problem if the image is for the internet or for screen viewing at full size. But it is still an issue for those who want the most image for photoshop manipulation.

Shooting in bright light is a problem. The high pixel screen is nice and sharp. But it is not able to be seen in really bright light. The image on the screen is totally washed out when the sun hits it.

The GPS is nice and works well. Better than some of the previous attempts at putting GPS in a camera. It is useful for keeping a record of where the image was shot.

The flash is in a place where your left index finger will be in the way if flash is needed. It does take some getting used to but after that, it becomes less a problem.

If you are looking for a camera that is going to be able to make shots for family and friends shots, this is the camera for you. If you are looking for a camera for videos, especially for you Tube, this is the camera for you. If you are looking for a camera for making stills for products for selling on say, E-bay, this is an excellent camera for that. If you are in the real estate business, this camera would be excellent for that.

If you are looking for perfect images that have sharp edges and great color, then you need a good DSLR.

I really like this camera for what it is. It does excellent video and for shots that require macro, it is really exceptional. I will be keeping this camera even with its faults because there are few point and shoot cameras that are close to perfect. If fits in my pocket well and is not big at all. That being said, the Sony DSC-HX20V is one of the better point and shoot cameras at its price point for those who want a simple point and shoot with excellent video capabilities.

Great camera for the size!

I am very pleased with the camera to this point. I haven't used it extensively yet, but have taken over 200 shots. The quality is very good. I purchased this camera to take to Europe in July so I can document my travels. My wife uses the larger Nikon with several lens, but for our trip I didn't want to load us down. This camera was refurbished, but it looks and performs as new. The package was the only clue that this camera may have been used. The only drawback is that I have to get used to holding the camera differently, because of where the pop-up flash is located. Great small camera with all the perks!Read full review...

Great little all-purpose camera for on the go use

I loved how easy it was to use this camera. Right from the get-go, I was able to figure out how to adjust the settings (it has full manual, adjustable automatic, and two full automatic settings which each have some easy-to-understand ways of adjusting the final result of the photo). There is also a setting that lets you take sharp photos with a blurry background - great for taking portraits of people.

I loved the video capability. I know it's standard nowadays, but it comes in handy, and the SD expansion slot means that I'm not feeling limited on how much video I can take on the average day. The video quality is excellent for a point-n-shoot - better than my Flip recorder.

What's really fun about this are the 3-D picture settings and the settings to take a panorama photo. You can even take a 3-D panorama, which is super! With so many computers offering a 3-D display nowadays, this is actually pretty cool for reliving vacations, and the panorama gets you that realtor-like width in your photos. I'm a landscaper, so plan to get a lot of use out of that feature.

Overall, an excellent point and shoot camera. While I'm used to my bigger Canon with fancy lenses, this gave me shockingly good photos and fits right in my pocket, so I'm excited about having a camera that I can carry with me on hikes without a lot of fuss.

Awesome seller! I'm so glad I found this camera. The sony Cyber- Shot DSC-HX20V camera is perfect for travel especially if you have limited space or you don't want to completely rely on your phone for photo ops. I like that it has multiple settings and if I feel like being lazy I can go into fully automatic mode. I've only take a few test shots so far but the picture quality looks great. Looking forward to taking it on multiple trips.

Awesome compact camera that takes great pictures at a great price.

Bought this days before leaving on a trip to Iceland. Wish I had figured out the settings a bit more before going but did manage to figure some out along the way. Manual settings can be hard to adjust if you aren't a professional but the camera takes great pictures once you do. I was really happy with the ease of use and weight of the camera. It is also small enough to fit in your pocket making a case unnecessary. I had to get a new camera because I had dropped the last one just too often and it became unreliable yet still took great pictures when it chose to work. It was also an older version Sony Cyber shot. I really like these cameras and will continue to buy them when needed. Great price, reliable in any filming condition, long life for battery and great memory card storage (once you upgrade the card)-what more do you need?Read full review...

Really fun to play with the options with awesome picture and video quality!

A bit more options than most travel zooms, but there are somethings for everyone.
Really love this camera!
Picture quality is amazing for stills and video, once you set it up properly.
Flash range is perfect for daylight fill flash.
Group pictures are no problems, stepping back 20ft to get the group shot is a breeze.
After updating the firmware, the panorama function shows a functional panning bar that works great!
The video auto focus is amazing and is seamless at different zoom levels.
The added on board picture processing for some of the different picture fixtures are interesting and do well to optimize pictures in low light or subjects with movement.
I can see where most persons can be overwhelmed with the compliment of features offered in such a small compact camera.

Awesome product...

There's plenty to like about the HX20V. Image quality is good, and you can safely leave it in one of its two automatic modes with confidence that they'll deliver an impressive set of shots.

While the 20x optical zoom is impressive however, there was no evidence in my tests to support the claim that the 40x option maintains superb image quality, especially when the results were blown up to 1:1.

That in no way should count against it when it comes to making a buying decision though. Such digital enhancements should always be treated as a bonus rather than a core feature. My advice would always be to rely on any camera's optical talents whenever possible, and consider disabling everything else -- an option you'll find in the HX20V's firmware.

Clear Image Zoom aside, it produced consistently bright, colourful, accurate results, it's easy to get to grips with in very short order and the added extras -- like automatic geotagging -- are a boon for organised travellers who want to remember not only what a place looked like, but also where it was.

If you love to wander the globe and take tons of photos along the way, you can be sure that the HX20V won't disappoint.

ideal camera for everyday use without bulk

in few words, it is the absolute all-in-one compact camera. This camera can be both auto for fast shooting and manual for creative photography. HX20 is lightweight but full-of-features. The sensor is low-light sensitive and I have got some wonderful nightly shots of the city lights. It is easy to get a nice bokeh, a 5cm macro and wonderful colors at the same time when shooting flowers. The 20x optical zoom is pretty useful and this steady shot feature works good for shooting distant animals, without going blur. Colors are not so natural, but are rather amazingly boosted making them lovely. Battery consumption is very low. By using manual focus, adapting shutter speed, and turning black/white, I got excellent retro photos of paveroads. Indeed, only my Sony A7 takes better photos than HX20. HX20 surpasses the SLT Sony A58.Read full review...
