Well worth the money for the traveler.

This camera is replacing my Canon Xti that I have used for several years that is just too heavy for travel and changing lens became burdensome. The Sony is light, has very nice high quality Zeiss optics and a shooting range 24-1200mm that will suit most users. It is very easy to use for general travel photography. Considering the cost versus value, Sony has done a great job packaging this camera with more features than most people will use at a very reasonable price. I have used this for general photography such as family events and it does a nice job capturing the moments. I have owned this camera 6 months and it has met all my photography expectations and needs. Picture quality is obviously not as high as my Canon but is good enough for myself and most users. I use a harness to carry the camera around when traveling. My only complaint is the lens cover should have a larger grab and squeeze area for larger fingers.Read full review...

Great quality camera that delivers

I wanted a replacement for my 7 year old Lumix. Got a Nikon L28. Cheap, but great sharp pictures 20MP. Wife said it was too small, so I traded for another Nikon L620. Great pictures and awesome full HD video until you zoomed in or out. Not only it was going out of focus, but it recorded the loud zoom motor. Took it back and started some research. Online reviews, youtube tests and hands on in the store. That's how I ended up with the HX300. It zoomed in fast and clear, good MP, lots of manual adjustments. Video quality is not superior to the Nikon's, but there is no zoom sound, and it stays focused. The huge zoom is also a plus. I took pictures of the Moon, and when I downloaded them on the laptop, wife first thought I got them off the net, no way you can get that with a camera. Well, once I showed her the image on the camera she was impressed. Having a viewfinder is also a huge plus. I had other cameras without, and on sunny days I could not see what I was filming, my face would reflect in the display, so I was only hoping I was zooming on the right thing. Love the fact that you can capture pictures while you're filming, also love the panoramic. A neighbor was taking pictures at night with his DSLR Nikon. High end camera. I looked at the end result, those ducks on the pond, and I wasn't impressed at all with those pictures no matter what adjustments he made. He said he'll photoshop some of them. I brought my HX300 a day later, put in in night mode and took way, way better and sharper pictures of those ducks, and my camera is at least five times cheaper than that Nikon. I am still learning it, I can't tell yet if I can shoot slow motion or fast video like I could with the Nikon. You can use it as an ordinary point and shoot, or you can manually adjust a lot of things, like the manual cameras I grew up with in the 70s. It is a matter of time before I lose the lens cap. I wish it was attached to the camera. If I am in a hurry to take a shot, I have to remove the cap, put it in a spot where I can find it later, then start the camera, and all this takes time and you can miss a shot with those precious seconds wasted. But that's not such a big deal, if I get mad, I'll drill a hole in it and attach it to the camera with fishing line... All things being said, even though I ended up paying almost four times more than the little Nikon, it was well worth it. I am looking forward to a lenghty relationship with this camera which does everything I need it to, and a lot more. Great for beginners, great for advanced photographers, great for those who want to learn and move up to professional photography. That's why they call it a bridge camera.Read full review...

Awesome camera for a professional photographer.

As a professional freelance photographer, I am very, very, pleased with this camera. It's 20.4mp resolution performs spectacularly, and when used with a class 10 600x speed memory card, there is no wait time for the camera to write to the card. Also, my photography is merchandise for commercial sale on Fine Art America and this camera allows me to compete with the other sellers, and sell my images when people want them. This camera has a high quality image capture that is very similar to the 35mm film cameras that press photographers used during the 1990's, but this camera is digital. This camera is the perfect Paparazzi camera.Read full review...

Excellent for wildlife at a distance…...

This is a 'bridge' camera -- essentially a full-featured point and shoot with some SLR functions. It has a long 50x telephoto with macro capability lens by Carl Zeiss and a very good anti-jitter system to make the system work. It is very good for wildlife shots where the distances make framing difficult. Lighting options are somewhat limited (no hot shoe) and the big number on the megapixel count isn't really evident in the results but pictures are sharp and clear. The battery life hasn't been a factor for me since the USB cord used to download pictures also charges the camera and my limited use hasn't put any of it to the test. I bought the camera for wildlife photography and it has performed beautifully in that role.Read full review...

Sony Cybershot DSC-HX300

This is about the best point and shoot I've ever owned. It is light weight, easy to use, and takes excellent pictures. This is my second one, the first one I sold and regretted it so rebought it. New, if you can find one will run about $450.Read full review...

Great camera very versatile and easy to use

Excellent value for the money. The optical zoom is great. I have been able to take pictures from very far, get close and not lose much definition. I particularly like the video part which allows you to shoot in two different formats AVCHD and MP4 allowing you to pick the quality you want for your movie. I like Canon cameras for their photo quality but they do not offer a similar quality for video. Sony is superior in this domainRead full review...

This was a major upgrade for me.

Photography has been a life-long hobby for me. This product was an upgrade from our Kodak digital. The picture quality is exceptional. Have spent a lot of time learning about the features it offers. Need to have much more practice. Am looking forward to using it during our summer travels. The reviews which were posted and which I read prior to purchase were very helpful. When comparing these reviews of the Sony, Canon and a like-featured Nikon, the Sony reviews were more consistently positive. Going into this project, I had no idea it would be so difficult to find a camera with a view finder which is definitely a plus.Read full review...

SONY HX-300 Review

This is referred to as a "Bridge Camera" Not a point and shoot, and not a sophisticated DSLR. The quality that this camera produces is much closer to the DSLR side. The lens of this camera is a Zeiss and therefore is the best you can buy. This camera can be used in the easy Auto mode, or them advanced manual modes. The excellent quality is apparent throughout the entire zoom range, which is enormous. A large tilting LCD panel, and electronic eye level finder are also great features. Th is is a great vacation, and walking around camera. I highly recommend this camera, it is a very good value for the money. And yes!...... I am a Photographer. Jerry R,.Read full review...

Sony always meets my expectations

lightweight, nice features, easy to read/use on screen displays-menus. Awesome zoom for a bridge camera, takes great macro, super clear scenic shots. Excited to take it on my trip to Costa Rica and use the Video feature & panoramic. I went from using a Sony A500 DSLR to this camera, and i feel like I get all the great features and things i want in a camera, without the added weight of a heavier body & having to swap out lenses and still get rave reviews on the pictures I take.Read full review...

Great for Semiprofessional Use!

Not only does it take great still photos, but great video as well! Fantastic image stabilization-great for handheld shooting or driving videos! Before this, I tried two similarly-priced Nikon cameras but was not happy with either, and returned them! While most might prefer automatic settings, I prefer manual settings, especially for focus while taking video, and this Sony has them! Camera has a wide variety of settings for almost any condition. If you're as serious as I am, this is the way to go! Also, stereo sound can't be beat.

There are situations where I might have to adjust the video color and lighting ever so slightly, but that's very easy to do with my editing software. I realize most users would rather not have to do that, but as someone who's been doing photography and videography for decades, I've become a perfectionist over the years. Still-an all-around great camera! For me, it's very easy to use, due to having learned to do things manually. If you prefer-just keep it automatic!

Been making videos with this model since April 2016, and many examples of its quality are on my YouTube channel.
