Great looks, performance, build, you name it for dvd and cd. Built to last.

Bought Sony dvp s7000 new open box in March 2018. Was never used. Built fantastic compared to todays standards. Placed in my rig along with my oppo Blu-ray and Sony 4k Blu-ray player and Sony 4k TV.... Needed/wanted something to give outstanding dvd performance, and I am not disappointed. Might be 20 years old, but nib means I will not be needing to replace for a long time. Best video performance I've ever had for DVD. Rivals my high end cd player in my other system. For what I paid [its a secret... ha] its the best bang for the buck I believe I ever encountered. I also have a second unit, and am considering a third as I speak....its THAT good. This is 2018, mind you!!! Its hard to get a stand alone super quality dvd/cd combo player these days, especially one built like this. For what they are going online for, this is THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY! A real deal steal! There are a lot to choose from online, as well. HOWEVER, do not be conned into some of the prices, such as $300.00 to $400.00, as those are unrealistic. It is one of the GREATS, as a stand alone unit. I need absolutely no mods, no different dacs, as its great by itself using its own circuitry. I don't care that it doesn't have dts...it still has Dolby digital, which is close in comparison. Makes my B&W speakers sing! Need I say any more? GET ONE OR TWO!Read full review...

Best DVD player I've ever owned.

This is my second DVP-S7000 and I love it. Better picture quality than any modern DVD or BlueRay Player (playing DVD's). Had one when they originally came out in 1997, and when that broke and I couldn't get replacement parts I had to look for a used one. This one was in almost perfect condition... practically new.Read full review...

Excellent, solid product

I'm using this primarily as an audio player, for SACDs, DVD-Audio and CDs. Sound quality is excellent. Build is great - weighs about 25 pounds or so. Easy to use. Display is clean. Item came without a remote - you can pick one up for about $20 from Ebay, but the remote is not essential for its use. This is meant for stereo sound, so if you're interested in 5.1 audio inputs/outputs you'll need to look elsewhere.Read full review...

A gem of a unit

I'm using the unit solely for audio CDs. I noticed the improvement in sound quality immediately vs my old Yamaha CD player. The Sony has elevated my stereo system - CDs sound better, the instruments and voices are clearer, there is separation, and I'm hearing more from my CDs that before.Read full review...

Great CD transport

My comments regarding to image quality is false (it's just audio that I tested). However, I bought this basically for its high quality transport and playing audio CD. In that, it's better than my $400 4k BR-DVD player.
You can't beat the Sony quality from last century.

One of the BEST Players For Movies & Music

The Sony DVP-S7000 is a solidly built unit both internally and externally. The DVD/CD (disk) transport is tight (snappy) yet smooth & relatively quiet. The case (housing) is very sturdy but not overly bulky. The front display is quite detailed yet not cluttered and the buttons are tight and springy, not lose and sloppy feeling.

I purchased this unit after reading multiple "Rave" reviews regarding the stability, clarity and sonic attributes of this unit. I must say; The reviews were spot on! This is one of the BEST multi function Players I've owned (Plays both Movie DVD's, Music DVD's and Music CD's). This payer is also a "Modder's" delight. (there are quite a few upgrades "one" can perform on this unit to make it even BETTER).

I managed to pick mine up for fairly cheap ($56), so for me, it was a "no brainer." The unit I received was VERY Clean (very few cosmetic blemishes) and worked flawlessly. It was obviously well taken care of by its previous owner. The DVD picture quality was superb (which was MAINLY why I purchased it) but I was absolutely ASTONISHED at how well it SOUNDED. It clearly held its own when compared to my $1700 Cal Audio CD Player and in all honesty, even sounded a bit warmer & sonically detailed!

Even though these units ARE old, they are a clear favorite (in my opinion) if found in good condition for a reasonable price! If you ARE able to find such a unit, buy it, you WON'T be disappointed!

Sony DVP-S7000 DVD/CD player

Received the Sony player in good condition, works as it should, sounds vary good with my CD's. Compaired to my other newer CD players, and even one that has a 24/192 bit DAC, it's a joy to listen to. It is head and shoulders above the two NAD decks in claritiy, and the bass is spot on. midrange and highs are fantastic, you can't beat this thing for the money. all in all best bang for a hi-end CD player, if you don't need SACD capability.Read full review...

Purchased as CD player

Purchased as a CD player. It does the job well, but does add some bass. I may have to plug it in to the TV to see if there are sound settings I don't know about. I expected it to sound better based on reviews. Over all it's a wonderful piece of equipment. MADE IN JAPAN!Read full review...

Sony smooth as silk

Great unit with exceptional cd sound and plays dvds and dvd+r perfectly, does not play dvd-r.
After using a cheapo model i upgraded to this model and saw an immediate improvement in picture quality. The functions of the remote are duplicated on the unit beneath the sleek slide down panel for multiple redundancy.
Many options as far as picture, display can be dimmed or turned off as well.
While not progressive scan the interlaced video looks just as good as new progressive scan players on non hd tv's.

Worst thing is with the placement of some of the buttons on the remote.
IMO placement should be play, scan, then skip. However right below the play is the skip button and below that the scan button.

Best thing is the satisfying "click" sound of an internal switch when the dvd is recognized.
Mine is over 10 years old and plays flawlessly.

Built like a Tank

Great DVD player!

This was my very first DVD player and I bought it as soon as it was released for $1,000 at the store. I really enjoyed the high level of audio and video performance that it provided, which when it was released was unmatched by any other player on the market.

The tilt-down door was unique and entertaining, not to mention a nice way to conceal the typical disc player styling, by hiding the disc drawer behind it. The front LCD display was animated, bright and easy to read.

I also like how behind the front tilt door, there were directions buttons (including Enter) to navigate disc menus while you are starting a movie, standing at the player, and the remote was still sitting in your seat. Great design. The on-screen menu was easy to set-up and adjust in just a few seconds.

It literally played EVERY SINGLE DVD I EVER PUT IN IT WITHOUT ANY ISSUE.
No skipping, no locking up, no "Disc Error" messages. A slight delay for layer changes, but "Who cares?".

The remote has well laid out buttons for transpoft functions and even the Play button is slightly oversized so it's easy to locate.

If every piece of electronics was made this well, the world would be a happier place. Support high-end products folks, they're cheaper in the long run!
