fan of sony ericsson

I ve always loved SE.
This phone is NO exceptional.
With the third party softwares, you can download for this model, the phone is no less entertaining than MOST-PEOPLES-FAV iphone.

I wasnt quite happy with the size of onscreen keybrd of this phone bt downloaded RESCO's keyboard, jesus, its so huge and easy, no stylus needed, believe me!

download MARKET (an app) to download hundreds of interesting apps.

only the downside abt the phone ((may b the problem with only my set)) is/are the battery info isnot quite correct. for eg, it shows abt one stripe (like 10%) left, bt if u turn off and back on, it says batterys criticaly low.
and the phone is not fast enough((its fast bt not quite as fast as iphones, many ppl expect to work faster like iphones as they are used to seeing it))
however, as it is 2008's model, IM QUITE SATISFIED WITH THIS MODEL even in 2011.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 - A new xperience

The phone is a touch of class. Small in size, but great in resources. Fast processor gives more power to the Windows Mobile OS. The main camera has a good quality, and plus have the secondary VGA camera, for make video calls. The only incovenient is the low software compatibility for Windows Mobile and the WVGA screen resolution (800 x 480). Most of the applications and games built for another resolutions, like 640 x 480, freezes, or in the worst case, freezes the OS.Read full review...

Xperia review

hopes are bigger than what you get with the phone. Internet is not as convenient to use than with iphone. zooming and browsing more complicated. full keyboard is real advantage. battery is better than usually on phones with that size screens. some things on the display are too small to use thumb to touch and you need to take out the stick, very hard to use it then you are walking or even sitting on the backseat in the car. otherwise, after some time you are getting use it and will be quite pleased...Read full review...

The iPhone 3G killer? You bet!

So, the Xperia X1. First of all, do not think of this as a phone - this is a pocket computer. As such, you will want to know the first three things everyone looks for in a computer, the CPU, the Qualcomm 7200 chipset running at 520 MHz, 128MB of RAM, and a 512MB flash drive, plus a 4GB microSD card supplied (up to 16GB can be bought at present, with 32GB on the way). To put that into context, my first Pentium-class PC, bought in 1999, was a PII-266MHz with 128MB of RAM and a 2GB harddrive. You can now carry a ten-year old home computer in your hand.

The first thing you'll notice when you open the box is the massive screen (800 x 640 pixels touch-capable TFT by the way) which is the largest available on a current smartphone handset (joint with HTC's Touch HD). Flip it over, and remove the back cover, and insert the battery and microSD card. The battery does seem massive, and a minor quibble here - you WILL need to remove the cover if you wish to hot-swap memory cards, but hot-swap you can!

Fire her up, and the screen is simply beautiful. Crisp and sharp, with great contrast. You may the brightness too low, as it auto-adjusts to suit ambient light condition, but you can always turn this mode off. The Standard Windows Live Screen starts by default, and this has your Windows Start Menu and (should you use the service) Windows Live Messenger, your 'inbox' of email notifications, SMS and MMS, your upcoming tasks/appointments (I don't know the difference either!) and (should you install it) your skype account. Yes, true skype - no fring for the X1!

There's simply not enough space for me to wax lyrical about all the features. I could go on about the GPS, and how I've used AmAze (free Sat-nav software) and google maps to get around in my car, and the GPS cycle computer to track my offroad two-wheeled expeditions and export to Google Earth as KMZ. I could tell you about the multiple connectivity options - high-speed 3G internet (HSDPA/HSUPA), UTMS (3G), EDGE (2.75G), GPRS (2.5G), GSM (2G), WLAN 802.11b/g (AKA Wi-Fi in UK), Bluetooth 2.1, and the USB cable (I can get my emails with the transmitter off if it's linked to my PC!) I could tell you how my phone has saved my boredom on trains with twitter and the BBC iPlayer. I can tell you about the 3.2 megapixel (2048x1536) stills camera, which also delivers 640x480 video at 30 fps. But no, I want to use my last 900 characters or so talk about the two killers for me - input methods and those panels.

First, inputting data. There are so many way to do this, you'll initially get lost, but trustme, they all have their place! Of course, firstly, there's the touch-screen, which is thumbable, but the X1 also comes with a stylus. The black box below the screen ain't just an 'OK' button - it's a mouse. slide your thumb around it to control the highlighted area on screen. For texting or writing emails, there's obviously the beautiful arc-slider full QWERTY keyboard, but there's also an on-screen keyboard and a three difference handwriting recognition styles.

And finally, the panels. These are brilliant, and a lovely interface addition. As standard are 2 SE panels, Virtual fish (change colour with various events/SMS etc), Google (not on O2) and MS Live, but you may also download extras, including facebook, iPhone style, youtube, dashwire to sync your contact and pictures to the internet, and even the HTC Touch 3D interface.

All-in-all, this is a fantastic phone - a true iPhone killer

Not without flaws.

As usual, this is an older model and although it is more than capable of doing everything the newer phones do today (maybe it doesn't load some silly Facebook application 3.2 seconds faster than a newer model - but so what? ) and in some cases, better than. The main let downs, though, and this goes for a LOT of older models of phone/pda is the software. With a decent software update this phone would be superb, but as usual it is left to rust and its flaws start to become apparent. The build quality of this phone is pretty poor. It seems Sony released it too early without testing the waters first. The battery plate on the back gets absolutely savaged by the lightest of use. Hairline cracks pop up all over the place ( especially the stylus housing ) even after general and light/caring use. For me, though, the physical keyboard is the biggest fault. It is absolutely terrible. Even my LG KS360 (An extremely cheap java phone) has a far better keyboard than this. Half the time you hear the click of a keyboard key being pressed and it doesn't do anything, so you get used to using heavy pressure and then it starts duplicating letters (sometimes up to 5 times!.) This isn't a software issue, either. I've played with the keyboard settings on my phone and I've made it so it takes forever before the duplicate kicks in. Doesn't make a blind bit of difference. So yeah, the keyboard is absolutely useless to me. This currently isn't a problem because I'm using FingerKeys2 (software) that is a superb on-screen keyboard. I can type faster on it than with the physical one! Though it has a lot of problems, it also has a lot of good points. The screen is unbelievably crisp, clean, clear and bright. With its extremely high resolution it is difficult to make out any faults at all. Watching HD movies on this thing is outrageously enjoyable (though to play any movies at all you'll have to download CorePlayer.) I don't recommend using any third party Roms. Frankly, I've had bad experiences and people are willing to sacrifice loads of performance to make their phones a little more like the Iphone. I'm happy with the panel system, but I don't really use it very often. Its more of a gimmick for Sony to sell this whole touchy/sliding craze that everyone needs/wants. This phone has so much potential, you've just got to unlock its power through countless hours of finding the software that works for you/settings calibration. It takes a little while to get to grips with its thousands of different settings and sometimes you can get a little overwhelmed. Also, this thing could be the ultimate portable gaming device if it wasn't, yet again, for the lack of software to back it up. There are swarms of great Pocket Pc Windows Mobile games out there, ( a lot of them free ) Doom PPC is one of them and unfortunately you can only play a lot of these in a small window on the really wide screen. I wish these phone manufacturers would stop ramming new models down our throats and forgetting about past ones, injecting a little support into each one and getting the maximum use out of it before giving up and starting afresh. Supply and demand, I suppose.

Well, to summarize, if I'd have got this phone when it was in its prime with the 5 hundred pound price tag, I'd have been pretty disappointed. Luckily, at the moment you can get this phone for insanely cheap. That's what I did and after a week of trial and error/flashing different roms I've finally found something that works perfectly.
