Great Camcorder: Fast, clear, quiet, and 16:9

I love the 16:9 ratio, and the burn straight to dvd feature. The 5.1 stereo surround sound, is well not really all that great. It works but it is more like 5.1 around sound. If you are recording in close quarters, then the directional mics, pick up sound in all directions....despite where the audio may be coming from. The recording is quite and fast. The use of a dvd rm will allow you edit in camera too. The best handycam out to date, since the HD models are not really consumer friendly. Sony Handycam DCR DVD505

When trying to decide which DCR DVD handycam to buy, I was overwhelmed by the choices. I went into one of our local stores and asked the sales person for some information and he was quite helpful. Then I read a review about the Sony 505 and I was sold!

This handycam is the easiest electronic tool I've ever used! We had it up in running as soon as we charged the battery. My son was taking digital pictures within minutes of picking it up, and the same was true when I tried it.(and that was without reading the manual!) The photos are wonderful and the videos are super too. More importantly is the ease that you can literally alternate between the two functions. Now all I need to do is take the time to read the manual to find out everything this gem can do!

The only problem I can say (and it's minor) is that the button to take the photos in on the top of the unit and I haven't acquired the feel for where it is. So, a couple times I've had to stop what I was doing to locate the shutter button (which is actually just on top of the unit where it should be!).

If you are looking for a wonderful Handycam that is small and compact (like carrying a small purse...so you WILL take it with you and USE it!), this is the unit for you. The clarity, the ease and the compact size make it a WINNER! Upgrade from a lesser unit. You'll be so glad you did!Read full review...

Sweet Camcorder

This camcorder takes great pictures. That's right, I said it takes great pictures. Of course, the recording quality is excellent as well, but one of the reasons I spent a little more money was to get the bargain of two functions in one device.

This baby delivered and I would recommend this camcorder to anyone who would benefit from having the ability to directly record and burn to mini-dvd's as well as take still pictures and save them to a memory stick or download them via USB to your computer directly. A straight joy to operate, versatile, lightweight, and a Sony

Very well taken care of product. Packed in original box with extras you wouldn't expect. All manuels, fully functional camcorder. Only thing I can find is it didn't come with a initial disc for immediate use. A very minor pick when you consider all the above is in EXCELLENT working, ready to go condition.
Plan to use camcorder to track the growth of my granddaughter, and this camera fits the bill with its ease of use. Of all camcorders that I have researched, this is the one to buy and by taking your time bidding you too might get THE deal as I was fortunate to get..

a replacment for just a digital camera

Excellent - I love the size and the ability to record on two formats for pictures. Also no tapes. Now I only need to bring one extra deveice instead of a camera and a cam corder. It is a little hard to turn the top button on but other than that it worked great. It is easy to toggle between the camera and cam corder. I can't wait to use it Christmas morning and it is ideal for football season. The touch screen menu is easy but you can get caught up in the screen. I did read the directions before trying to use I consider it user friendly. I've handled it with kid gloves but I think it can handle normal wear and tear.Read full review...

I dont agree with the person who wrote the negative review and saying Mini Dv is better. I had Mini Dv camera for very long time and it reduce the quality when you capture it for editing. DCR DVD505 copy MPEG2 format file directly to the computer without going thro the capture process. Mostly I like the 16:9 ratio recording because it mathing with my 16:9 screen plasma tv. When I play Mini Dv in 42" Plasma TV I can see the quality differance. There is no problem in power on switch, first you have to press and hold the gerrn button and then turn the power switch.
