The SONY FD75

I have owned 3 of these. 1 died with a drive problem, which is common with the FD75 I understand. I have used a NIKON SLR for years and have some experience with photography.
I use these at work and the pisture is great. I use the FINE quality mode and can fit ~ 20 on a floppy. I like having the floppy media. I keep several in the case. When I copy the from the floppy to my computer, I reformat the floppy, and it is like having new film.
I send pictures of job repairs, damaged equipment, and questionable problems to several factories on a regular basis. I have been complemented several times on the images.
Some newer model save to a floppy and/or media card. I will probably look for one of these in the future. My 1st camera has lasted almost 5 years without any problems. The one that had the drive problem I bought used. It failed in ~ 6 months. Really can't blame that on the camera since there was some external damage to the camera when receive.
I've found it handy to have an extra battery. It lasts quite awhile, but when your battery dies, no more pictures of course.
The screen is somewhat hard to see in bright sunlight. When the screen brightness is increased, you could see the image good enough to photograph.

Money well spent

I bought this camera because my sister has had one for 5 years and I liked to borrow it for it's quick and easy download to my computer. The camera has tons of features, excellent quality photos taken in .jpeg format, super simple downloads, simple recharge system, and user friendly menus. What I am not too thrilled with - it is heavy (compared to my small Sony digital camera), new floppy discs are getting hard to come by in my area, not everyone else has a floppy drive on their computer if you want to download away from home. Other than those personal specific complaints of mine, I find this camera to be an excellent camera for the money.Read full review...

Easy to use Self-Focusing digital camera

I have owned a Sony Mavica MVC FD75 0.35 Megapixel digital camera since May of 2002. I purchased my camera because I needed a digital camera that would Automatically Self-Focus for very close up pictures (i.e. watch dials, diamond rings, gold nuggets, flowers, plants, insects, etc..etc..). This camera does exactly what I want it to do, Quickly, Easily. and Efficiently. My recent purchase of this camera was for a friend who needed simplicity in a camera, as well as the ability to take very close-up pictures of his work and designs, with out having to manually change settings on the camera. This camera was perfect for him. Of course, this camera is an older model, is quite large, and originally sold for over $350.00 new. For the beginner or the not so technical person, they should find this camera very easy to use. It can be easily found on EBAY for about $65.00 to $125.00 depending on the type of accessories that are included. The only drawback, is the fact that it uses a 3 1/2 inch floppy disc and because of the new and ever changing technology (CD's & Memory Sticks), the 3 1/2 inch floppy is pretty much obsolete. Most new computers do not include the old A Drive and it must be purchased separately. When I have a computer built, I have to have the old A Drive installed to accommodate my floppy’s. Overall this camera is an excellent buy and is well worth it for the beginner.Read full review...

I'LL NEVER PART WITH THIS CAMERA!!!

I purchased this camera about 5 years ago and I will probably still have it 50 years from now! Yes, it is a big bulky (not for your shirt pocket) camera, but I don't carry camera's in my shirt pocket anyway!! Seriously, I've been using only this camera for all of my ebay auctions for years. It only has 0.35 megapixels, but my photos always look good. Of course, the quality I suppose could be a tad sharper but it is perfect for what I use it for. Also, to only have .35 mp my photo's look pretty darn good. Also, in all of the 5 years I have owned it, I have not had 1 blurry picture!!! Not one! It has a very good zoom and it is very easy to use. If you are a beginner or don't like camera's that require you read the manual to turn them on, then you will love this one. It has a large LCD screen and lots of different photo options. You can change the color of the pictures from the camera. It has an excellent flash and the battery life is AMAZING! I can charge one battery and it will last for about 300 min's (and I've not replaced the battery in 5 years). I love the fact that I can just pop in a floppy disk and I'm ready to go. Floppies are much cheaper then memory cards and you can just put them into any computer with no problems. Overall, this has been the best camera and I've never had any problems with. It is big, but strong!!
PROS: Good Quality, Durable, Excellent Battery Life, Convient Floppy Disks, Good Zoom, Large LCD
CONS: It's big! Recording time is a little slow but nothing terrible

Great utility camera!

This is the easiest and most indestructable digital camera ever made. We use this for our construction crew so that they can take pictures of job progress or communicate any problems from the field to the office. With the resolution set to the highest the pictures can be easily enlarged and the quality is very good. We keep 4 of these in the office at all times and keep looking for good used ones. Disks are cheap!Read full review...

Don't sell yours if you think you are upgrading...

I so-called upgraded to a newer smaller Sony Cyber-Shot thinking I was going to improve my Ebay pictures. I went to memory stick and my new computer didn't even have a floppy disk drive. Boy, am I sorry I sold my Mavica! My new camera and system doesn't come even close to giving me the pictures and ease of operation I got with my Mavica. And, it is so easy to get the attachment that would allow me to return to floppy disk. I really miss my excellent close-ups. I just can't get good detail with my new camera and don't want to have to use a tripod. For ease of operation and top quality pictures EVERY time I would pick this Mavica camera and the golden oldie floppy disks.Read full review...

A classic.. the ideal auction camera Don't part with it

One of the best cameras made. The megapixel race has left this to get dusty but I will not part with it. It was the ultimate ebay camera and still can be. I have yet to meet a camera that takes better closeup/macro shot. I own a dsc-v3 and use that for most of my pix now. But if you want a great camera, quick uploading, great closeups, well balanced color, ease of use, etc etc ... and are on a budget, this is the camera to pick up. No longer made, there are still some floating around. Can be updated to use memory cards with a 3.5" to card adapter I saw for sale here and there on ebay. The quality and ease of use more than makes up for the low pixel rating. By the way did I forget the best feature is the 10X optical zoom? Unheard of and digital zoom can't hold a candle to it. This is a classic!Read full review...

Sony Mavica MVC FD75

I absolutely love this camera. There are many versions, but the best is FD75 for just pictures. You can get between 20 and 40 pictures on each floppy disk and it is fast to change disks, and no time lost in the processing. Floppy disks can be downloaded or printed directly, and don't seem to loose info/pictures when the seal is closed. The pixels are great, and labeling is easy.
I had one when they first came out and it got ruined by leaving it outside by accident. I am so glad I have found Ebay so that I could get a new one. I have purchased some for others once they saw mine and what it could do and how easy it was to point and shoot. Having the capability to near/far focus is a big plus. There are many other features to this camera that just enhance it even more.

The Delightful Sony FD Mavica Digital Camera

The Sony Mavica was the first digital camera I ever had and I've still not found anything better. No matter how many other cameras I use I keep coming back to this one. The picture quality is excellent, and the focus and ease of use on the zoom feature is by far better than I've found on many more expensive cameras. The zoom stops on a dime and you don't have to keep adjusting it to keep your focus.
The Picture Effects are easy enough for a beginner to use and yet, still give you that professional look we all strive for. The easy use of a floppy lets you go right to your computer to download and edit your pictures and yet you can still keep them on the floppy and not clog up your computer with unnecessary files. And on top of all these good attributes, it still small enough to fit in my purse and take anywhere. If you want a reasonably priced camera that does it all I highly recommend the Sony Mavica. Thanks, Jaynee405

Great for computer dummies **User friendly**

This has to be the easiest camera to use. I think it just might be easier that actual cameras. All you need is a 3 1/2 inch floppy disk and a charged battery and you are on your way to great looking pictures. When you are done all you have to do it take your disk out pop it in the computer and **poof** you have pictures. With most cameras today if you use the preview screen rather than using it in the same fashion as a traditional camera the battery is dead in no time at all so you are likely to miss that once in a life time shot. However this one has great battery life, but as we must all remember it is technology so be prepared with your charger and stay near an outlet so you can charge it if it is sure to be a long day. With the newer cameras out you won't get the best possible picutres but they are still decent looking photos. They do still make this camera however it is newer and with more options but still the 3 1/2 floppy disk which I just saw at Wal-Mart last night. The older ones if you look hard you can still find and they are not going to break the budget within reason.Read full review...
