Don’t make em anymore

The new Star Wars battlefront 2 uses the proven favorite pay-to-win system. No hunt mode, most features aren’t local co-op, but I’m here to talk about the original. This game is from a less greedy time and seems to use the philosophy that if your company makes large, group play, and most importantly fun games, costumers will keep coming back. This doesn’t work if one game is WAY better than the rest, in this case not just of the series but the genre entirely. This game is very much limited by the hardware, but you can’t feel it. Space battles feel truly epic, galactic conquest feels like a soldier bulging an empire, and hunt makes for hilarious couch conversation.
So I won’t be coming back to this company I’ll be coming back to THIS game. If you want to be a wampa fending off an entire rebel force or fighting as and alongside the Ewoks of Endor, ‘‘tis will play out a lot more smoothly than you’d expect.

Scratched Disk

The game works occasionally. After playing 5-10 minutes, the game crashes due to the scratches on the disk and stops gameplay until reset. Not the product I was aiming to buy.

Good ground combat, awkward space battles

I bought the first Battlefront almost two years ago and loved the rich graphics, pumping music score, ease of play and multitude of options. I soon mastered each battlefield.

Battlefront II offers a much of the same attributes. There are land battles on Tatooine, Geonosis and Kashyyk, for example that feel a lot like the scenarios from the original game. Some new landscapes like the Death Star, Leia's blockade runner and Coruscant add breadth of landscapes. One really fun aspect of the land battles is fighting as a Jedi or Sith Lord. Once you get your mojo as a regular soldier, you'll be interrupted with the option of transfering to a really badass character, who with the sweep of a lightsaber can clean up scores of the enemy. This is great fun.

The campaign game includes space combat, usually prior to any land actions. Again, the graphics are rich and vibrant. But having previously played the Jedi Starfighter series, I feel that this element of Battlefron lacks playability. Down is up, Left is right, etc. As an older gamer, I found this very disorienting. I don't really aim to learn how to fly a starship, I just want to blow off steam, shoot stuff and enjoy the pyrotechnics. I grew frustrated with the space combat sequences and will probably avoid the campaign games because of it.

Still, LucasArts has never really failed to bring me great entertainment. I probably own all the StarWars games, in part because I love the genre but also because the games push the envelope in terms of innovation and richness. If you like Star Wars at all, this is worth the money. If you like first person shooters, don't hesitate. If your looking for great air/space combat, you probably can do better.

Good game, Lots of action, Lacking in plot.

This is one of the better star wars games that have been released. The fact that you get to be a soldier on the frontlines, making a difference in combat, is a phenomenal idea versus other games where you're some super soldier designed to obliterate the enemy. In this one, when you die, you come back and resume the fight. When you do want to mash faces, you have the chance to play as heroes/jedi, which is a fun break from normal combat. I find both experiences to be enjoyable, but I'm glad this game focuses on you being a normal soldier. The different soldier classes present you with opportunities to contribute on the battlefield in different ways- I like this because it suits multiple playstyles. Plus, you can switch which class you want to be in the middle of a game, so you can easily react to your opponent's tactics. This is a great game to play when you have just a few minutes of spare time or if you feel like blowing away a whole evening. Don't expect much in way of a storyline or campaign- just enjoy the game for it's frantic combat.Read full review...

War Star Wars Style!!!

Pros
+ You can play as heroes now. That means I get to be Darth Maul!!!
+ Lots of vehicles.
+ Space battles!!!

Cons
- Almost too much chaos & bots do a lot of the work.
- No real sense of playing people online because there are so many bots.
- Can't choose your hero.
- Vehicles don't control as well as the 'Rogue Squadron' series.

Comments
Graphics are great and battles feel huge. You only seem to be a tiny part of the machine until you get into a hero's shoes. Then you are unstoppable, almost. Fun to play with a friend as well online or off.

Verdict
Must have for Star Wars fans. Must play for anyone who liked the first. This one is much better.

An addictive game with more depth than the 1st

Star wars battlefronts II is a very good sequel to the original battlefront saga. This game is fun and has many updated game types. You can play as the rebels, empire, droids, and clones. The graphics are solid as is the gameplay. The grenades could be better. They have added space battles, which can be annoying at times, but are fun.
There is a story mode where you play as the 501st clone troopers and must help, then betray the jedi. This story mode is more of a checkpoint based shooter. You can play this on multi player as well, which is excellent.

Multiplayer is the best part of this title. From galactic conquest to story modes to versus each other, it is addicting. Galactic conquest is a great deal more fun than the original. Now you can buy more upgrades, including a jedi bonus which allows you to control an environment specific hero, as well as purchase character types. The purpose of this conquest is to erradicate the opposite team from the map in either space or land battles. It is great fun and supports up to 4 players on the same system.
Another new addition to the game is player profiles. Now all of your statistics are saved and players are rewarded for certain in- game feats. This includes weapon, skill, and health upgrades. For example, kill 12 people in one life with your assault rifle and you earn a frenzy then receive an award rifle. The award rifle will last for a little while and shoots 3 shot bursts. It is sweet. That's not all! Upon getting 64 frenzies with your profile, you will permanently gain the award weapons. This goes for all the bonuses for each weapon type and character type. Once you have legendary status in all categories you will be the total package of power, endurance, and skill. Being a "legend" helps you immensely in the story and coop modes, but where it would set you apart would be during on line play.Unfortunately, that is not the case.
Online mode is where this game is ludicrously weak. Having an upgraded character does not help you at all.The one player game online has a great deal of hiccups and lags constantly. When compared to a game like Halo 2, this looks like the oregon trail. It is difficult to kill other players online because they randomly disappear from your screen. Also as far as i could tell you cannot play multiplayer online. That means if you have friends and you want to play against worldwide competition you cannot. Why any game nowadays would not have a online coop mode but have an offline coop mode is beyond me.

Overall this game is worth buying in my opinion. It does get repetitive at times but being able to play as quite a few characters makes it enjoyable. The offline multiplayer is my favorite part of this game. four people on one screen in an epic battle is pretty amazing. The addition of the profiles makes the replay value go up. The game stays "fresh" for a while because of all the different galactic conquests and story modes. I hope that this franchise continues, and the online play becomes more of a focus. An arena mode would be fun for multiplayer, similar to a fps like Bond or Halo.

Star Wars Battlefront II

For anyone who loves the Star Wars movies, it is understood that you take the good and the bad. You love the idea, not necessarily how it was displayed or the graphics. Star Wars Battlefront II is one of those games you love because it is a representation of what we love.

The controls for the game are a bit touchy, the space battle vehicles are hard to fly, but it's the ground battles that really pull you into this game. Whether you're playing the Rebel Alliance or the robotic CIS, the ground battles are an endless battlefield full of thermal detonators and people attacking from every direction imaginable. The game, while not perfectly executed is really fun to play, whether alone (where you can take out an entire army practically) or playing with friends (where you can beat them mercilessly). Either way, this game is fun to play and definitely worth buying for the gamer who likes things a little "old school".

Star Wars: Battlefront II

Bought this item because we are die hard fans of the Star Wars series of arcade games from way back (Genesis, Sega, Ninetendo, Arcades, Playstation & PS2)! Long overdue release of an updated version for modern platforms! Wonderful 3-D gaming environments! New great improvements to the game playability! Finally two player version! Easier to select option items during game play! Numerous possible scenarios! Role playing games provide hours of endless play options! The controller improvements are much better with layout and functionality! Although there is always room for new improvements and/or up-grades...hopefully there will be more! Overall this game is a good value buy! It is captivating...hard to stop playing once you start!Read full review...

What I like and dislike about my PS2 video game.

I like the fact that it has improved flight control. But what I dislike about it is that the color of the laser bolts the TX-130S fires out got changed from the right color (blue), to the wrong color (red)! I also dislike the fact that the AT-RT fires the wrong color (red) in its laser bolts, instead of the right color (blue) in its laser bolts! In addition, I dislike the fact that the Phase II Jedi Starfighter fires the wrong (red) in its laser bolts, instead of the right color (green) in its laser bolts! Lastly, I dislike the fact that the color of the laser bolts the TX-130T fires out got changed from the right color (green), to the wrong color (red)!Read full review...

How to bad and good

Before I begin I will start with one statement. You like star wars then most likely you will like this game. With that said onto some details.

The game allows you to play during the clone wars or Empire period. You take the role the role of a soldier be it a clone or droid or rebel. During Hero periods you can switch over to special characters to help turn the tide of battle, Jedi or Jenga Fett or sith. Each choice of character has the normal range of bonuses and negatives as with any shooter. Base shooter, heavy weapon, engineer and sniper are the choices. You play either on a planet or in space with fighter combat, of the two the fighter combat can be repetative.

It is a good beer and pretzel game as a solo.

Sequel to the best selling SW game ever!

I like this game a lot. I recommend the Mos Eisley Assualt level (Jedi vs Sith). The reason i gave it a 4 is because it does not have a 4-player mode for the ps2, only the xbox.

Pros
+ You can play as heroes now!!!
+ Lots of vehicles.
+ Space battles!!!

Cons
- Can't choose your hero.

Comments
Graphics are great and battles feel huge. You only seem to be a tiny part of the machine until you get into a hero's shoes. Then you are unstoppable, almost. Fun to play with a friend as well online or off.

A Must have for Star Wars fans or Hard-Core Gamers. Must play for anyone who liked the first. This one is much better.
