A great movie with a great message

This movie is about a teenage girl who is stuggling in her home life because her parents are split up. She gets into lots of trouble, and ends up being sent to a gymnastics academy where she is to learn to be part of a team. Haley is a big rebel and has a huge chip on her shoulder about life and gymnastics especially. The further into the movie you watch, you learn that she has been a gymnist before...a very talented and promising one at that.

She is a huge rebel but yet has that quality about her that somehow makes you like her despite herself. As the movie continues, she learns to be a part of a team, ask for help, and ends up teaching her collegues about being their own individual in the sport where you are so harshly judged. They give to her, and she gives to them.

It's a great story about being how you are, but still being repectful and supportive of those around you.

This movie was fun, funny, and just enjoyable. It won't win huge academy awards, but the movie is just something that's fun to watch.

Gymastic goes Rebel - Good Music in Movie

Haley is a former gymnist who was well on her way to the Olympics when she walked away. She listens to rock music and is a rebel. She listens to Styx - gosh, do you remember them? Well she got into trouble and is sent to Juvy Hall in Houston to Vickerman Gymanstics where she needs to train or her other option is to go to jail. So she trains. She knows some of the girls and they are giving each other a hard time. Point Toes not Pointy Words - Pointy Words are Turds (LOL). Haley doesn't want to participate so the Coach sends the girls outside where they are running in circles and keeping their toes pointed while he rides a riding mower until Haley participates. The coach wants her to try for the IG Classics. She doesn't want to have anything to do with Gymnastics - very rebuttal. Great Music played throughout the Movie (Green Day: Brain Stew). As expected, Haley softens up and comes to her senses. There is one part where the Coach bends her foot and I think I would scream!Read full review...

Great for older children 10 and above

Great for my older children. Good gymnastics throughout, and a clear indications of the level of discipline required. There is a little adult language and dealing with fallout in the main character's life after her mother's affair.

There was a large show of disrespect towards adults, but it wasn't left there. We learned why, and then the root of the issue was confronted and healed with the help of adults and friends, leading to great respect for her adult coach.

Younger children will have a hard time processing much of the film, because it is easy to only latch on to the rebellious parts, which are funny and "cool." I would recommend that you watch the film with your kids, because it leads to great conversations.

Stick It Anywhere But In My DVD Player

From what movie did this lame version of Bring It On, Bad News Bears, Rocky, etc., not steal? Other than Jeff Bridges as a coach torn between money and monkey girls, there are no "big" names in this one. Hailey (beautiful even in grunge gear) is a former gymnast forced to return to the scene of the crime, at a gymnastics academy, so to speak or face prison. Of course the other girls resent her. Of course she and coach have to work through some respect issues. Hailey even steals that famous line from "An Officer and a Gentleman" after the sergeant kicks the @@@@ out of Mayo and Richard Gere yells/cries, "I have nowhere else to go!" The plot revolves around Hailey confronting her withdrawal from the World Championships 2 years prior, a scratch we find was due to her coach hooking up with Hailey's mother during training. Since Hailey's mom and dad are totally shallow, big surprise here. Since the parents clearly didn't get the message, it's up to coach Vickerman to dig to Hailey's deeper psyche and bring out the winner within. Subplot of Hailey's dorky x-biking friends is awash in fart jokes. Guess it makes the point that gymnasts have no time for socializing, but they sure chug jellybeans with the best of them. In all seriousness, the problem with this movie is that it is derivative of so many other far better films. The characters have very limited appeal. Hailey is pretty and some of the other gymnasts have cute moments, but they are all such stereotypes! The lame "message" here is that professional gymnastics suffer from extremely prehistoric judging criteria and lack of imagination. The statement made by the gymnasts in effectively selecting the winner of each event is supposed to send a message to "da man" that the robotic anorexics who compete, are just not going to take it anymore. Girls under 10 may get a kick out of this, but the movie is absent of romance, adventure, suspense, sex and just about anything else worth watching.Read full review...

Stick It...in the DVD Player!!!

A great movie the whole family can watch and will enjoy! Haley gets in trouble with the law and is forced to choose between military academy and a facility called VGA. After she chooses military academy the judge says "VGA it is". We learn that Haley is a former elite gymnast that did the unthinkable when she walked away on the last event at a major competiton. She had her reasons but no one understands why and she faces their wrath when she resurfaces on the competition scene with Team VGA. All too real in the world of gymnastics where the judges not only hold athletes to perfection but also grudges against coaches. Realizing the flaws in the scoring system the gymnasts take a stand and send the judges a message. Very funny with a great cast, awesome soundtrack and tons of bonus features that include the real gymnasts with many cast as themselves. My daughter, a gymnast loved this movie so much she saw it 6 times in the theater and we had to have it on DVD!!Read full review...

Inspirational movie for teens

This is a great teen movie, my daughter who is now 17 has watched it so many times that I finally decided to buy it. The movie pin points troubled teens, stage moms and the pressure that life brings to teenagers today to be perfect. It deals with a broken home, questioning authority and in the end it shows that when kids have someone who cares about them and a POSITIVE influence to help them they can achieve anything they want. I would recommend this movie to anyone who has a teenager, the comedy really hits home with how teens are today and the fact that we all need someone to believe in us, that it matters we are here.Read full review...

We never got to watch it.

We bought it for my niece as a gift and it was at my mother's home. Unfortunately, her home burned on Friday, 4/13/2018.

We never had a chance to give it to my neice.

Dont do it you could have a Cardio-vasectamy =)

THIS MOVIE IS HILARIOUS ... WHAT IS EVEN FUNNIER IS IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW WELL WAS OR IS IN GYMNASTICS. "IF YOU LIKE TO FALL ON YOUR FACE, LEGS, ARMS, OR BUTT GYMNASTICS IS FOR YOU...GOOD THING I DONT LIKE FALLING". THAT IS A QUOTE FROM ABOUT A 3 MINUTE SEQUENCE OF DIFFERENT FALLS. AND HERE IS ANOTHER ONE ... "NAVY SEALS THINK THEY HAVE IT BAD ... THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF NAVY SEALS BUT ONLY ABOUT 50 PROFESSIONAL GYMNASTS, WE DO THINGS THAT MAKE NAVY SEALS LOOK LIKE SISSYS .. AND WE DO IT W/O A GUN." THIS MOVIE IS FULL OF FUNNY JOKES/QUIPS. THERE IS ONE GIRL WHO REALLY IS AN AIRHEAD AND IT IS SO HILARIUS.
TO GET THE REVIEW TITLE YOU HAVE TO SEE THE MOVIE

RECCOMENDED PROBABLY FOR AGES 10+ SOME LANGUAGE .. I THINK 'THE B-WORD' IS IN IT TWICE ... BUT NOTHIN WORSE THAN THAT
