STUNTMAN: IGNITION

Our family had just come back from Disney and I saw a game that reminded me of the stunt show that we had seen. OK my 11 year old son is who I got it for, and many games (besides Call of Duty and Madden) he plays them, masters them and then sets aside after a day or two. This game however he has been playing for many more hours than I could imagine. The graphics are neat, the filming & directing make it very cool. Plus there are so many cars to choose from, different areas to race--it was well worth the $. You are in commercials and work your way up etc...

Stuntman Ignition is the sequel to the popular game from Atari, Stuntman. THQ now has the developing rights to stuntman, and they have unveiled a brilliant new driving simulation game full of excitement and adrenaline. Ramp delivery vans over lava flows, drive through open helicopter doors in mid-air, or create your own cool stunts!

Gameplay - 9/10
The new Stuntman is full of exciting gameplay. The game is hard on you at times, though veterans emphasise that this game is much easier than the prequel. Still, it is quite hard to master the game as each new movie you unlock is full of challenging new stunts. The weather and climatic effects are not just graphical, the vehicles are much harder to control on ice and such. At the end of each scene, you'll be given your rating (from one star to five stars). As you progress through the game and get better results, your overall stuntman rating will go up. You can go from Rank 150 to Rank 1.

Controls - 8.5/10
The controls for the new game are quite intuitive and easy to master, especially if you have played other driving simulators such as Need For Speed and Midnight Club. You'll find that each car will have to adjust depending on whether you are driving a delivery van, a sports car, or a bike. Each vehicle has different driving dynamics so you will need to cater to the driving needs of each different vehicle.

Graphics - 7/10
The graphics are among the better games on the PlayStation 2. However, the textures of the vehicles can be a little rough at times, especially in the cameras up close during the replays. In-game graphics are great, though you won't have time to admire them since you'll be immersed in performing the stunts and improving your scores. Replay graphics are mostly good, but they get rough and jagged when the camera is up close, so graphics get a seven out of ten.

Game Length - 8/10
Stuntman is quite a challenging game, so you'll want to keep playing to get your ranking up. Once you get to the number one rank for all current stuntmen, the ranking switches to the greatest stuntmen of all time. You start off at 58 and need to 5-star every movie scene to climb to the top of the pile. This takes practice and patience. After you finish the game, you can always construct your own challenging stunts and play them. There's also multiplayer mode, so this game has quite a long life. However, when you get frustrated after repeatedly failing a stunt, you'll probably want to take a break for one day.

Replay Value - 8/10
The game has good replay value. After finishing the game, I deleted my save file and started over from scratch because I liked the game alot. I'd put its maximum life at one week if you can play well, and about two to three weeks if you find it hard and challenging. Still, this game makes a good buy.

Buy or Rent?
Now the inevitable question pops up. I recommend that you buy the game, because even after finishing it you'll want to play it again after putting it away. It's got a good life and replay value and gives deep intensive gaming sessions. If you are more of a casual gamer, throw your PS2 out the window, get a Wii and play Super Mario Tennis all day long.

Monster trucks anyone??

I got this one just because it has a mode where you can build up a monster truck freestyle arena. I already got all of the Monster Jam games and wanted more. It is very realistic and accurate, there are tons of obstacles, ramps, and other objects. There is just one monster truck, but plenty of other vehicles to choose from, so if you are looking for more monster truck action for your PS2, get this one, or its prequel, Stuntman, that also features an arena mode.Read full review...

Great follow up to the original Stuntman

I didn't even know there was a second installment to Atari's Stuntman! The original stuntman is one of the few games I found interesting enough to play through to the end. So far, this one is just as compelling and I plan to one day complete it as well. RECOMMENDED!Read full review...

My grandson loves it, and it came very quickly, of course he would have liked it the next day. Patience is not one of his things. Game plays great and he has played it many times.

stuntman sucked

I would recommend this game to people who enloy crashing. If you like to get really angery its the game to play. kool cars and neat tricks but kinda hard. so have fun and good luck to you guys.
