Best retro box yet!!!
Let me start by saying that i buy almost anything to do with retro gaming far as consoles go. I have almost everything that can be got that is hdmi or standard rca with the exception of a few super expensive options. I have to say that this console in particular is not perfect but its great overall for what it does and the problems i have could be fixed with a simple firmware update. Love the onboard game selection lots of diversity and variety plus you can take a sd card and play the rest of your nes, snes, genesis,mame and neo geo collection all on one small console. Not everything works but for everyone that don't dozens of great games do. Yes theres a thing called a retropi and a nes mini and snes mini and flashbacks yes i have those too but out the box this is the best option for affordability and accessibility. Another DIsappointing Plug and Play
This is a plug and play and is about the same size as the NES plug and plays. The design is kind of generic.
This game system does have some advantages.
Positives:
--You can add your own games up to about 600K in side
--The controller cord is 10 feet long
--The pack in games are all good games; no shovelware here
--The box this comes in is sleek and nicely designed.
--Easy to use menu and interface
--SD slot
--AV outputs if you want to play these games on a CRT TV
Now for the negatives:
--The controllers that come with the system are of terrible quality. One of them did not even work out of the box.
--A lot of games are mapped to buttons that are not intuitive to a gamer and remapping is a chore and does not always work.
--The games are all defaulted to stretch to the size of your screen.
--You have to go into the menu for EACH GAME to set them to original size. There is no way to do this at a global level.
--There is a lag when playing on an HDMI cable that is noticeable. It is almost a 1 second delay which sucks for gaming.
--The games themselves suffer from slow down.
--The sound on many of the games that are bundled with the system are not close to their arcade or game system counterparts
--Most games I added, while playable, did not work well on my TV.
This is a system for someone who is a casual gamer and wants to relive their childhoods once in a great while. The CPU for this is slow and clunky and the controllers are garbage. Ok, you must buy this! I should just end my review there. This product is great! I am a teenager again, quarter on the arcade cabinet anxious for my next fix. It is addicting. There are games that I am like OMG I played this! And then all the great memories of where I was, what I was doing. It's awesome! . There is thousands of hours of playtime. I mean I haven't even seen all the games yet because I am wanting to finish the game I started. Arcade versions are so good. This console is great. It has awesome title games and the price is just right. The variety of games brings an excellent experience of fun playing. Worth every penny!
The Super Retro-cade 1.1 has more than 90 games plus an SD port for added games such as NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, GEN and Arcade. The 1.1 version omits Cobra Command, but 5 games have been added instead. My complaints is that some MAME games run too slow and choppy and sometimes not at all. A good entry point in to retro gaming, emulates all 8bit and 16bit systems and is limitless once an sd card is used. Only has one issue you can't organise the games on a single sd card by system. Useless for CRT's
If you're playing on HDMI then this unit is fine to use. Has some good games and you can expand upon it. Controllers are designed well too. Cheap but very functional and the system has a cool interface. If you're planning on using this console via composite through a CRT TV though don't waste your time or money. There is no way to get it to display the proper aspect ratio. It will either be stretched so far that you can't see a third of the screen or it will be squashed vertically no matter what game you're playing. There's no point in even having composite if it will not display properly on a CRT. Having that said, even if you play using HDMI there are many other means of playing the games on here.
