Review of Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition DVD

If you are a Superman fan, this collection is for you. I have purchased some of the movies seperately, and also the Fleischer cartoons from the 40's. This set has pretty much everything involving Superman over the years (except for the TV series, those are sold seperately, of course). The set does include the original George Reeves movie that the Adventures of Superman tv show of the 50's was based upon. It has all of the movies including the Richard Donner cut of Superman 2 (a much better product than the original theatrical release).
I think the set would have been more complete with the inclusion of the movie serials with Kirk Alyn and maybe the pilot episode of Lois and Clark. Other than that, the only other complaint of the included material is that if you lose the including guide, you can't tell by the DVD which one contains what extra materials (i.e. cartoons, specials, making of, etc.)

It has every original Superman movie starring Christopher Reeves ever made! It even includes Superman Returns with Brandon Routh! Worth the investment!!!!!

This set is a fine example of what can be done when a studio releases a series such as this magnificent set. The Richard Donner cut of "Superman II" to me was alone worth the price. "Superman II" as envisioned by Donner is a fantastic improvement over the theatrical release. The sound is wonderful, the extra footage is a godsend. I was blown away by this version. I have been a huge Superman fan since I was a boy. The loads of extras and commentaries are phenomenal. "Superman Returns" is a brilliantly conceived addition to the Superman mythos. I cannot get enough of this set. To me the "Superman III" is the weak point of the series...the forced slapstick in the intro is uncomfortable to watch. Richard Pryor is wasted in his role. If Pryor was given the Robert Vaughn role it would have been a nice change-of-pace, but...anyway. A must buy,must see epic set. I rank it with the 4-disc "Lord of the Rings" sets.Read full review...

The tin box has a little tarnish on it's borders and creases and the plastic slipcover has some sliding wear but apart from that everything looks to be in surprisingly good shape.

Superman Ultimate Collectors Edition (DVD), 2006

This was a birthday gift,and to say that the recipient was surprised would be putting in in the catagory of the Tooth Fairy leaving money under a pillow.
Therefore, he was amazed when he opened the package and found another item to add to his collection even as I, at the time, I received it.

As a Buck Rogers collector, I know the feeling that enters the heart when one receives that which adds to one's collection. It sticks in the mind even as the memories of our childhood remain with us into old age.

Everything you'd ever want to know about Superman. Truly!!

This edition truly is the "ultimate". It has everything from the movies, the special feature DVD's, and even a bunch of the old cartoons! Also, if you happen to use clearplay DVD player, they have filters for all the Movie DVD's in this set. That was why I bought this set over some of the other versions.
