Country Diva's short stardom

1950's era rise to stardom in the south. Typical love story of love found the hard way, ending in tragedy. Tear jerker, but great old country songs from original recordings.

I truly Hope Patsy Cline had more in her life than a bad husband!

I truly Hope Patsy Cline had more in her life than a bad husband! The movie really does not cover her career, her accomplishments, and her friends. I thought the movie was not good. The person that played Patsy doesn't look anything like her! Read full review...

Sweet Dreams (DVD, 1999)

This is a biographical look at the life of Patsy Cline (Jessica Lange), one of America's most beloved singers of the 1950's. Her professional singing career was meteoric but her personal life off stage was very different. She had a voice that could turn a simple love song into something that could give you chills down your spine, but just like so many women of that time, she struggled with a troubled marriage, with a violent and abusive husband, Charlie Dick (Ed Harris). While Lange and Harris were both superbly cast for these parts, so was Patsy's mother, Ann Wedgworth, who superbly portrays the solid-core Southern woman whom Patsy is emotionally dependent upon. In truth, Patsy Cline was one of those women who, although tough on the outside, often found herself too emotionally dependent upon others, and was used by all. Her music was her escape from the troubles of her life and with songs like Crazy, Sweet Dreams, Walking After Midnight, and I Fall to Pieces, you have to believe that she was reaching out to the entire country for personal support. Her songs were written by others, but she sang them as though they came straight from her troubled heart. She truly was the voice that defined her time and situation. Although Charlie Dick beat her, abused her, and openly cheated on her, she stood by him until her untimely death in a plane crash. Her music survives her to this day, and to this day she is truly missed by many.Read full review...

Great movie !!!

My mother met and knew Patsy Cline. I didn't get to meet Patsy, but I met Loretta Lynn , one of Patsy's best friends, and I met Ernest Tubb and his band, Jack Drake played bass and Jack Greene played drums. I was 15yrs.old at the time. I wanted to know about Patsy's life before she died in the plane crash . It's a great movie and tells the truth. I love it.Read full review...

Great entertainment!

I've seen this movie before, BUT I wanted to watch it again. It's just as impressive the
second time as the first.
He was abusive, but he really loved he. A real loss to America for so many artist to die
in such a way. I can't help but wonder what those singers would have done if they
lived out there career.

Jessica Lange as Patsy Cline, Sweet Dreams

Jessica Lange stars as Patsy Cline, the ill-fated country singer whose trembling, emotion packed renditions of "Crazy," "Sweet Dreams," and "I Fall to Pieces," made her one the most enduring voices in all of American popular music. Starting out by performing more standard country songs in little dives and honky-tonks in Virginia, Patsy rose to national prominence after her manager Ted Healy matched her voice to her now famous bittersweet love songs. Unfortunately, her own love life often mirrored the sadness in her songs. We see her choose to "stand by her man," as Loretta Lynn sang in COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER. That film, similar to SWEET DREAMS in that it's another country singer's bio that shows us the professional success and personal heartache of women during the 1950s I love this Movie!Read full review...
