Great sequel to an essential PS1 title

Great sequel to the original game

It gave great shoot-em up gameplay mixed with with a touch of stealth. For its time, it even rivaled metal gear solid. So now here comes the sequal, and is it any better?

Yes and no. Yes, its better, but only slightly. This might actually be considered Syphon Filter 1.5, since it has only slight improvements over the orginal. Now you control Lian as well as Gabe (she is identical to Gabe in combat ability believe it or not), and each has thier own missions. Graphics are still sharp, though they seems less colorful this time around. Gameplay is still amazingly inventive, and fun to play. Lian in the early stages seems more geared towards stealth, while gabe gets to gun down more people. personally, i think its great, but is still missing some things.

Chief amougnst them is Gabe's 2 classic weapons: The Silenced 9mm and the Stun Gun. Both are presnt in the game but not standard issue... what gives? The new voice for Lian also doesnt seem to fit her character, and I miss the old on. Thie orginal Gabe voice is back, thank god. Mara Aramov (from the orginal) has now bleached her hair blond (she was a better Redhead) and taken a more active role. Goody, now I can gun her down... i hope.

Speaking of guns, there is not a lot more of them, From Cross bows to knives (for hand to hand) to new automatics, The guns are plentyful. You're sometimes gaive a LOT more options on how to kill someone, which is fine by me.

also new is a 2 player mode! This is a fun kill fest that is easily customizable. Kinda like a Syphon Filter version of Goldeneye's battles. My only complaint in this mode is that the arenas are smaller than they should be in some cases. But it takes Syphon Filter to a whole new ball game with this! HOORAY! Shooting people has never been this much fun.

Its a worthy purchase, ESPECIALLY if you are a fan of the orginal. Now excuse me, i have to go kill some annoying guards.

Graphics-9. Slightly less colorful than the orgianl, giving it a slightly gritty feel.

Camera-10. Thank god they kept this in tact.

Controls-10. I dont understand why people have so many problems with the controls, they are much better than any other 3rd personal game i can think of. From RE to TR, this game beats em all.

gameplay-8. Same old same old, though in this case, its like driving a classic corvette rather than a used for escort. A bit more emphasis on stealth than the orginal.

replayability-9. Heck I have to play thru again just to unlock some of the cool stuff in MP mode!

Great multiplayer for Playstation

I was probably 19 or younger when the game was released. It is one of the best Multiplayer Shooter games for the Playstation. It was great for that aspect, and would be great if reproduced, new features and maps, for online multiplayer today. You could sit back to this game and battle your friends for hours on end.. late night. It's probably not good now compared to all the PS2 has to offer. I still have the game, but I don't ever put it in the PS2. Anticipating a new release.. and the Omega Strain does not do Syphon Filter any justice. That was a poor design for online gaming, and far from what this game here had to offer.Read full review...
