Abbey Road in your pocket

When you consider that Sgt Pepper's was recorded on a four track, you have to realise that the Tascam DP-008EX is sheer luxury. It's easier to use than any four track available at that time (or now?). It weighs considerably less. It fits into the pocket of my raincoat. The Beatles used a Studer J37 which weighed 300lb and cost around 2000 pounds in the 60's. Look what Tascam gives you: eight tracks of easy access and fully bouncable recording tracks; audio effects included, reverb, EQ and compression, de-esser and exciter. You can plug your mics and guitars and keyboards straight in. There's no tape rewinding, no tape tangle or snapping. It awesome. All you need is some musicianship and talent. Good Luck!Read full review...

Portable and great sound

I really like the portability of this product and the fact that it's so light. I have only used it a couple of times to record about four tracks (vocal (spoken word), djembe, flute, bells). The sound quality is quite good and I think once I've mastered the recording techniques, I'll be able to make a decent sounding cd. The instruction booklet is clear and easy to follow. . I decided that it was best to buy the ac adapter (not included) because I didn't want to take the chance on battery drain when I'm using an external mic. In closing, great price and product! Great product

Took about a half hour to figure out. I just followed the steps from the user manual. I hook it straight into a mixer for instant play back. I have used external mics and the internal both sound great. it has phantom power so you can use virtually any mic. I love that you can connect straight from an electric guitar or bass into the recorder. Great product.Read full review...

Great little recording gizmo packed with loads of features

I am still getting my head around the workings of it. However I'm amazed at it's small compact size and if it can do even some of the things it claims to do then it's fantastic.

Just What I Needed

I've been playing guitar, singing, and harmonizing with others for a LONG time.
I had a TEAC 4-track Reel To Reel tape deck in the early 1980's, a Yamaha "Drum Machine" when that was a thing, and a 4-track cassette multi track recorder.

The DP-008EX cost far less than any of those antiques did when I bought them and is, by far, superior.

Without reading the manual (I never read manuals), I made a rough recording of my acoustic guitar and me doing three vocal parts using only the built-in microphones and the results sounded better than any of its (my) parts.

If you are working out your original compositions or just want to make a clean & balanced recording of your projects, do yourself a favor and buy this little gem. It even can run on batteries.

Fantastic and portable!

This little Tascam is a dream come true. It is very easy to use and produces quality recordings. The portability of it is an added plus! Take it to jams, parties, campfires etc and record the fun. The best part is the size. It takes up little space and is lite weight. I do recommend picking up a power supply so you don’t burn through batteries. Read full review...

Perfect for what I needed.

I was looking for a portable device for recording away home and out and about and the dp008ex has been perfect so far! Super easy to use. Make sure to fully read the directions, I skipped a step and lost a full recording. Totally my fault. I recommend the dp008ex. Read full review...

Works great for my workflow

I bought this unit to replace a broken DP008. Admittedly, this device isn't right for everyone, but it suits my workflow and environment. I record tracks using this device and export the wav files for processing in Audacity. If I need more tracks, I can simply mix down a guide track, reimport that into the DP008EX as a new song, and continue from there. This allows me to work without having to ping-pong or master in the DP008EX (which is possible, but a bit awkward.) I'm also using it to dub and convert some things from vinyl.Read full review...

Good Digital Recorder.

I bought this to record some analog reel to reel music to digital. The DP-008EX is fairly easy to use and the owners manual is very good. It's too bad you can only record two live inputs. It would be nice to have 8 tracks of live recording. Still, it is a good deal for the money.

I would recommend it.

Great little sketch pad recorder

Very pleased with the Tascam DP-008EX. I got rid of my DP24, it was too much for my minimalist needs. The 008EX fits in a small backpack and can run on batteries, which is great for recording practices or quickly recording ideas. Read full review...
