easy to set up, powerful router

this router is very powerful. I got a large home and before purchasing the router, I had serious dead spots around the house with the router my ISP provided me. I first got this one and my plan was building a mesh so this was the first step.

from the moment I set it up, I noticed a BIG improvement in wifi coverage. Set up was a breeze with the google wifi app and I can manage it wherever I am from as long as I have internet both at home and in my cell.

now I have a mesh system, consisting of this router and a google wifi (google's newer version) as a repeater to add coverage to the remaining dead spots. now I have whole home coverage. you can add as many of these as you want. you can also mix them up as I said, with the newer model from google and they work seamlessly.

btw, it looks very cool. you don't really need to hide it. just the opposite. It gives your home a very modern touch. totally worth it!

NOT WHAT I EXPECTED

I expected to have a better connection to WI FI for my various wi-fi-dependent devices. It's terrible. I walk away 3 rooms and can't get things to pop up on my iPhone. I had never had this problem with the Netgear router that my son "adopted." Now I'm stuck with it. I just started looking for another one and the Netgear Orbi RBK50 looks really good! I wish I'd known that this router is made by the TP-Link people, because I ended up selling my TP-Link extender on eBay because I never could get it to work. Read full review...

Excellent product

Have TWC with the 200/20 plan and the modem/router they provided sucked and I couldn't get the speeds I was paying for. I replaced their equipment with a ARRIS SURFboard SB6190 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem from Amazon and three of these TP-LINK OnHub routers placed around the house and now I have screaming Internet throughout the whole house...and even out on the deck and porch. These OnHub routers are very easy to set up as a mesh network. Wish I would have done this sooner. Here's a tip for setting up a mesh network. For each router you want to set up...plug each router into your modem..one at a time, create as new network, it will update the software. When done, from your phone, reset to factory default. When done, do that with each router. When all have the new software and are back to factory default, plug one of them into the modem and create a new network. After completed, plug the next one into a power source, and go through the set up for mesh network...repeat for each router. I now get faster speeds than my TWC plan....about 240/25.Read full review...

Features and Range in brick home impressive

Tired of having multiple wifi extenders that constantly drop I investigated mesh networks. I needed something that I could put the kids on timeout, prioritize wife's internet traffic and manage everything even offsite.
The OnHub ticked those boxes for me. I bought one to start with and I am super impressed. Previously without the extenders I would get POOR (11Mbps) wifi signal in my bedroom from my main router. With the OnHub (located right next to the main router) signal is EXCELLENT (72Mbps on phone) in my bedroom. My home is an old brick home.
The parental control (time limits, Safe Search) are great features to keep the kids safe. I can prioritize my wife's device when needed (like when kids are streaming). The only feature request I would like is ability to lower certain devices priority (but sure that will still come).
As someone not staying in USA, yes the AC adapter is rated 220v also so all you need is a US to your local plug converter for it to work. The app also does not have any localization limitations.
I read old reviews where people complained about not being able to set DHCP range, DNS or IP address of the device, this is not the case with the latest firmware (that installs automatically when setting up the device).
Would I recommend this product - for someone with beginner or intermediate IT skills and wants something that you can "set and forget" then I would say a definite yes. For someone who wants more control on their router and loves Mikrotek devices, maybe give this one a pass.
For me this has been a great purchase that I definitely do not regret.

Better than google WiFi/Nest.

Own 1 already. Beter than G. WiFi. 13 antennas 5 2.4ghz 5 5ghz and one super 2.4. +more. 100 devices connected. I had up to 36 active devices all online. No problem. Traffic congestion antenna seamlessly connects you to least congested channel. Parental controls accessible from anywhere your smart phone has cell/wifi. Auto update. I know this is an older router but google built it future proof, their words verbatim. Had a G. Wifi point as a second mesh to my primary OnHub. returned it because OnHub is just hands down better, faster, (AC1900 not 1200) Ive owned OnHub 2+ years. Ive never reset device, reconfigured or had to reboot it. Set up was so easy my grandparents could do it.Highly recommended not to mention attractive enough to have right out in the open. No hiding this one in a basement cupboard. No annoying flashing lights. TP/Link TGR1900. Also available made by Asus which Ive never used.13 ANTENNAS 100+ DEVICES NO PROBLEM.Read full review...

Almost perfect!!!

Honestly this is the most reliable router I have ever used, with the exception of that silly google cloud issue that occurred earlier I have had 0 issues with this unit. It patches itself and is never down. I have owned Netgear X series routers that had more features but were never as reliable at the TP-Link based OnHub I have now. I would like a few additional advanced features like port forwarding and perhaps we will get those. Really cannot go wrong with this if you need a reliable easy to expand wireless network.Read full review...

Great router

I was having wifi speed issues. My download speed was at 25mbps. Pitiful.....My son is an IT guy and he told me I had too many smart home gadgets on my system using all of my bandwith. I got the onhub and wow. My internet speed is at 88mbps. I can prioritize specific devices to receive the most signal. I can set a guest network and it can have 100 devices connected. The cool stage in my home is also great.Read full review...

OnHub - The Bet Router I have ever had

THe OnHub is easy to set up and works great. I have now purchased 7 of them, for use at my home, rentals, and my family. No problem with then at all. The range is fantastic. I can use my computer on the wireless from over 100 yards. I am currently getting 240 MBPS download speed, and that appears to only be limited by my provider. Google is replacing these with a lower range and similarly expensive model, so if you want one, buy it now.Read full review...

I love the onhub's

I purchased 2 of the TP Link Onhubs to add to my Asus Onhub to create a home mesh network. Excellent results, and easy to setup, just make sure all the routers have the latest software and follow the prompts in the app. I know have full strength high speed wifi in every room of my house and surrounding my house for security cameras.Read full review...

A great value for the performance, covers a large area

I own 3 of the On-hubs for our 4000 sq ft home and we have great coverage. I bought 2 and though they covered the house from end to end. But since our cable modem is on one end of the house, I found that there were a few spots where wifi wasn't working as well as I would have liked. I have it setup in a mesh configuration and with 3 in place we have great, fast coverage throughout the house.

I looked at the Google Wifi devices but I was able to buy these for less money and they have more antennas and offer better coverage. I like the app to control the devices and it gives you plenty of information to know how your network is performing. I also like that I can setup certain devices to cutoff automatically based on a schedule. Now I can cut my kids computers or game systems off to be sure they aren't on them late at night.

The setup is simple and once you have the first one done, setting up the second one was simple and the mesh networking works great. I had multiple networks in our previous house and you had to switch between them. With the large mesh network I stay connected where ever I am in the house and it automatically switches me to the closer access point. There's no drops or issues with the hand off.

The device can handle up to 100 devices. with our thermostats, Google assistants, smart plugs, phones, Roku devices, Chromecasts and computers we have over 35 devices at any point and time. It works great even when we are all on devices and streaming videos.

Since getting these 3 months ago I now only regret not doing this sooner. They work seamlessly and stay running. We haven't had to reboot them or had any issues with them. They just work as promised. I would recommend these for any size house or apartment. For larger houses start with one to see how much it covers. It is very strong and covers a large area depending on the layout of the house.

If there's any downside I wish I could manage the network from my computer. It only works from the mobile app. I use my computer all day and it would be nice to be able to see the setup from a larger screen. Other than that minor complaint these things are worth the money.

save money with the old stuff

So it isn't the newest "mesh" network from Google. It is working great AND....it will work with the hockey puck router if I want to add one, but doesn't look like I need it at the moment. Love it! I pay for the cheapest Comcast service I can get and my speed tripled when I upgraded to this device....from a 7 year old wireless-n linksys. :-)Read full review...
