For all amateur photographers, its Nikon quality at Tamron price 10/10

Im not an expert photographer but enjoy it as a hobby. I purchased this Tamron 18-270mm PZD lens as a replacement for the standard 18-55mm lens my Nikon d3100 came with and I wasn't disappointed.I researched the internet on reviews and listened to many salespersons opinions in various photography shops and my conclusion was to buy myself one. They retail at around £500 but I purchased mine on Ebay, checking the sellers feedback etc and my winning bid was £352 so I was well pleased.I have used it in the New Forest, which is local to me, taking both distant shots of pineland forest etc and macro close-ups of dewdrops on blades of grass etc. I have used it at my local beach too with some impressive close-ups of waves breaking etc. One shot in particular I had put onto canvas and now hangs on my lounge wall! The VC is a useful function, and various reviews mentioned using this function would 'eat' the battery life quickly but I haven't found this to be the case, so I generally leave it on all the time. The autofocus is good and fairly quick but I would recommend manual for greater flexability (fore-focus / midrange or distant etc) which is somewhat lost on Auto as it sometimes searches/refocuses again if you accidently half press the shutter again. The lens is noticeably heavier than the standard and I find walking with it round your neck for great lengths of time a bit annoying but I found using a cross the body strap and soft-case a much better arrangement for comfort as the cameras always by your side and the extra weight doesn't even notice carrying it this way. Also when taking photos, as the lens is also longer, I would recommend an external flash as the body of the lens sometimes casts a slight shadow on photos occasionally. An external/top mounted flash bypasses this problem by the height of the flash (this will be my next purchase). The zoom is a little stiff to operate but I find this preferable to being so smooth it makes the lens creep when carried around the neck( you can also use the lens 'lock' button which works well). I recommend a clear filter to protect the lens if you drop it as hopefully you will only have to replace the end filter and not the lens! Finally if your still in any doubt whether to buy this lens, just go for it, you wont be dissapointed, Im not, Im well pleased with it and hope it will last me many years. I hope you have found my review helpful.Read full review...

Good auto focus with D3400 camera

This is a good quality lens for the price, with sharp images and quick response times for auto focus and burst photography. Well recommended for the price.

As everyone says its a great all rounder but don't expect to much, not to impressed on the build quality the image stabilisation is a little jurky but doesn't affect the final picture...

An all purpose use lens which is light and easy to carry around.

I've used Tamron lens previously so was not surprised to find this lens easy to use. It's zoom raneg means I only need to carry one lens around for any situation. OK it's not going to compare with the best of different lens in each situation but its good enough and I'm happy with the shots I've taken so far. Fully recommended. Just make sure you by it for it's strengths.Read full review...

This lens does what I expected of it.

As far as I have used the lens and in my limited estimation it is a good piece of equipment. It suffers, as do some other lenses, from travel,ie the lens tends to elongate of its own weight when it is held in the vertical position, but aside from that I have no complaints. I have enjoyed using it for the extended range of focus which it offers.Read full review...
