Robert Duval; good actor & poor portrayal of Christians

R.D. Acted the lead and directed in this movie. While his acting was brilliant and moving. He does not portray a Christian with any real knowledge of any. No method acting here. In this movie he portrays himself as a "true Christian". He looses his ministry then he murders the man his wife is having an afair with. No accidental murder. He takes a baseball bat and hits the man in the head. Instead of doing the right thing and being accountable here on earth, he runs away to start a new life in another obscure town. He starts up another church and "talks the talk" again as if a real Christian. Some are even lead to the Lord.
Being a Christian is not an easy path, when we accept the Lord into our life, we are saying our mind, body and spirit are no longer ours, they now belong to the Lord as he paid with us with His own earthly life. The Holy Spirit comes into our life in many ways, one way is by our consous directing us to the right way to go and and when we try and take charge and ignore it, the Holy Spirit through conviction tries to lead us back.
While cheating on your spouse is a sin, remember Christ was sinless and allowed himself to die a horrible death for our own iniquities. Christ did nothing wrong and could have stopped his own torture and death, he even taught us to turn the other cheek and forgive those who unjustly murdered him.
I know it's not easy to forgive and love your enemies. Just knowing God has the final judgement is sufficient.
When I say I am a Christian, I am not proclaiming to be a perfect person, just a simmer saved by grace.
Robert D. acted without remorse or regret or accountability until justice caught up with him in the end. You know it would of one way or another, there are no murderers in heaven that have not asked for forgiveness. When God looks at us, He sees our heart.

unusable DVD

The movie itself would have received top rating however
we could not play the DVD "THe Apostle". The DVD was marred but did not seem so bad that it would not be able to play however it would not even start. We tried it in two computers and in the DVD player. It didn't even try to play. I had seen the movie years ago and was quite excited when I found it but it would not play. We did not try to notify anyone because the price was so low that we felt it would not be worth the money to send it back.Read full review...
