** Not Our Type of Movie I Guess -- Our Rating: 3/10 **

Hhmmmm, lets see... We picked up The Brothers Grimm today simply because the front and back cover looked interesting, stars included Matt Damon, Heath Ledger, and the beautiful Monica Bellucci. The cover offered a very stunning pose of Monica Bellucci, but the movie didnt hold our interests enough to even see her role in the movie.

This movie is by the Director of Monty Python and The Holy Grail, so if you enjoyed the Monty Python films, you "may" enjoy The Brothers Grimm??

Supposedly Rolling Stone, People, and Good Morning America gave it good reviews.

Its just not exactly our type of film I guess. We'll watch it again just to give it a second chance, but dont have very high hopes of enjoying it anymore than our first viewing.

Rent It or Buy It? RENT IT first.

OUR RATING: 2.5-3.0/10 (Below Average)

Brothers Grim

This movie was way more then I expected. I got lost a little bit in the begining, but it all came together. The plot wasn't stupid and predictable like most everything out there and it was a visual fun ride. I really enjoyed it. I bought this movie because as a small child I always loved reading the
Grims fairy tales, but as a small child a paid little attention to who the Brothers Grim might have actually been. This movie puts a face on the authors of these classic childrens tales, and better brings them to life. It is worth adding to your DVD collection, and more then that it is worth watching a few times, because you might miss a few things the first time you watch it. This is not the greatest movie I have ever seen, but it sure was a good one.

So get it, it's good it's fun, and it's worth watching a couple of times and swapping for. Nobody wants to swap a bad title, and this is swapper.

THE BROTHERS GRIMM

Staring Matt Damon and Heath Ledger as Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, two brothers in French occupied Germany who make a living battling ghosts and demons, which is easier than it sounds, since the ghosts and demons they battle are just elaborate parlor tricks staged by the brothers and a couple of henchmen.

The French ruler knows about them, and rather than merely put them to death, he decides to torture them a little bit first. He has heard rumblings about a village bordering a forest that truly appears to be enchanted, and young girls from the village are disappearing. The brothers Grimm are sent there to “solve” their problem, which the ruler expects will end with them getting burned alive by the townsfolk.

Will thinks that the woods are just the work of someone who’s performing an even more elaborate ruse than the ones that he and Jacob perform. But Jacob knows better; he notices that the trees are indeed moving, and he’s read all the fairy tales that Will dismisses, and recognizes a similarity to a story about a queen (Monica Belluci) who loved to gaze upon her reflection. They enlist the reluctant help of a tracker named Angelika (Lena Headey) to get them out of the woods alive.

If you like fantasy, faeries and Enchantments, this dark version of childhood stories might likely be something you would enjoy.

Interesting film, but definately not for everyone due to its dark and sinister nature.

I enjoyed this movie, but it is not like the faerie tales I heard as a child!

Enjoyable and entertaining fantasy!

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie even though the dialogue can, at times, be difficult to follow. I believe this is due to the accents of the many characters coupled with the somewhat loud background music.
The story is a complete fantasy and I bought it because I am a huge Heath Ledger fan. Heath goes against character here and plays the fanciful, child like, younger Grimm brother Jake. I must say the first time I watched this movie it was not what I expected, however, after purchasing it and watching it a second time I was able to really appreciated the character Heath created in his portrayal of Jake. He is, as always, quite charming. I also enjoyed Matt Damon's portrayal of his character Will. The two actors together really complement each other nicely! That being said, this movie must have been extremely difficult to make and my hat goes off to Terry Gilliam for undertaking such a challenging film.

No "Grimmaces" for "The Brothers Grimm"

It took me a few minutes into this film to realize that George Harrison and Handmade Films were not alive and well and in the background producing what on the screen looked so very, very good. In reflection, Terry Gilliam, very much alive and well, managed to do a damned good job of reminding me just how cool the films like "Time Bandits" and "Baron Von Munchhausen" were in their day. It follows that you will seldom see a fantasy film that marries smart writing with a nice mix of "The Scary-Funny" with engaging actors, clever humor, pure cynicism and just the right amount and quality of special effects to make you whistle quietly to yourself and say, "Damn.. that was just soooo Cool!" Johnny Depp might have been able to carry this off without Tim Burton in the wings, with anyone opposite him as his sibling, but Matt Damon and Heath Ledger (having decided to swap roles during production) made for the right recipe of sugar and spice when it came to their hectic scenes of demonstrating just how testy "Brotherly Love" can really be. There is enough madness and mayhem to go around that it looks like everybody in the supporting cast had fun while playing their parts to a fair-thee-well. All in all... this was a very engaging and entertaining film. And finding it on eBay four years after I should have at such a low price made for yet another reminder for us all that in addition to searching "The Internets" on IMDB and via "The Google" or anywhere else, we should all make it habit to search for gems like this on eBay. Trust me... You'll save money while you find the pleasant surprise with the thrills and spills that a neat little movie like this can provide! I'm giving this one Five out of Five Stars! --==Enjoy the Day==--Read full review...

DVD-The Brother's Grimm

I liked this movie the first time I saw it. It has so many different references to fairy tales in it and it is fun to try and catch them all. I like both actors that play the two main leads in this film. There are some pretty gross scenes though, so I would not recommend this for a younger audience. I rent a movie from Netflix and if I crave to see it again, then I buy it. I would recommend renting this movie first, it is rather different. Long live fairy tales!Read full review...

It is a dark movie & Rated PG-13 formore than 1 reason

Once upon a time... I saw a DVD called the Brothers Grimm and it was dark and grim. This movie is rated PG-13 for more than one reason.
Actually it was was dark and grim but also imaginative but it could have used some help from the Grimm fairy tales in order to make it a more interesting movie.
I can not say it was the worst movie I ever saw, but I can say I was somewhat disappointed, maybe because I expected more from Terry Gilliam, the director.
He has made so many good movies that I enjoyed very much in the past. I hope he makes a better one than this next time. Watch it without the kids if you really want to watch it.

Great potential! Not so great movie...

This movie had a great cast and a lot of potential. It's like Shrek in real life minus the humor and takes place in a gloomy medieval setting like in Sleepy Hollow.

There were 'good' moments but it was certainly not worthwhile seeing it in the theatres. I have not read the novel but have heard that it was much better than the movie. However, even if you have not read the book, you will still catch the references to fairy tales as well as the satire.

Please also note that it is not a children's movie even though it contains a lot of references to fairy tales. Children will likely find it scary and some scenes are a bit gory for younger viewers.
