The Girl is a Dangerous girl to the whole country - that's why it thrills!

An absolutely awesome book. The first part of the trilogy in which we become acquainted with the principal characters. This is a book in it's own right but lays the foundation for more to come to explain all the seemingly inexplicable things in it. What seems to be a simple missing person story unearths secrets so dangerous they threaten the very fabric of the Swedish government. The awful crimes that one of the family members has committed over the decades is a sinister warning to young girls who seek excitement and adventure in foreign countries.
Steig Larsson has written a masterpiece of suspense, terror, action and a very convoluted plot. I couldn't put it down once I started and took just three days to finish it and another seven days to finish the following two volumes, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest.
The fire one explains the relationship between Lizbeth and her father and his shadowy gang of people and what they do for money.
The hornets one explains the whole story about how Lizbeth's father came to be in Sweden and why she was incarcerated in an asylum and why she is considered to be so dangerous that they want to kill her. It really does put the icing on the cake.
The DVD film adaptions are marvellously accurate (as much as a 150min film can encapsulate 3 days reading) although are all in Swedish with English sub titles. You have to see the film and read what's being said.
The whole Trilogy is superb.

LOVED IT

One of the best books I have ever read, very hard to put down. I would def read it again. Some action/detective books can be a little unbelievable, this was not. Both the female and male main characters were awesome and totally believable in what happened.Read full review...

Enthralling and captivating. Not to be missed.

This was a fantastic read although there was such a huge everything seemed to end so suddenly (but certainly not disappointingly). Regardless, I found it hard to put it down and I'm now onto the second book in the series.Read full review...
