Good comedy for adults only

Due to the crude language, nudity, and explicit sex scenes, I would recommend THE HEARTBREAK KID for adults only. If you are not bothered by these aspects, this film is funny, yet disturbingly realistic at the same time. Ben Stiller plays a 40-year-old man whose past relationships have always ended due to his fear of committment. Finally, he meets a seemingly perfect woman and marries her after only six weeks. He even holds off on sex until the honeymoon. By society's standards he finally does the RIGHT thing, but it goes horribly wrong. Many men would be delighted at the wife's idea of normal sex; Stiller is frightened and exhausted. Then his wife gets a severe sunburn and is confined to their hotel room. Stiller wanders around the resort by himself and meets another woman. She seems perfect, more perfect than his wife --- although astute viewers might see the handwriting on the wall: if he had in fact married her first, he might well have been driven crazy by her eccentric relatives. In the end, though Stiller believes he has finally gotten what he wants, the real message seems to be that some people really are NOT cut out for marriage. As a serial monogamist, Stiller was happy with each girlfriend until the girlfriends broke up with him and they remained friends. When he listens to his friend, father, and girlfriend and gets married, he turns into a liar and cheater who feels miserable, guilty, and ends up hurting his wife and himself. Stiller's character, who can't love a person through better AND worse, and who is always looking for greener grass, should have remained single. To thine own self be true!Read full review...

My Heart Was Fine But my Sense of Humour Is Now Broken

With all do respect to the script writers and the many other people that come up with funny movies. There are things that you can really laugh at and there are things that are just plain gross.
r>Well, this was one of those movies that you just think that the most uncouth comedian minds in the world get together and throw everything in including the kitchen sink.

I will say that there are a few good lines of conversation that go on between the brothers that are memorable and hilarious, but the rest of the movie was extremely painful to watch.

You didn't feel sorry for Ben Stillers character even after he spends 6 months trying to get back across the border. The ending was so lame and morally reprehensible that I couldn't believe they even brought his girlfriend back into the picture.

Ben always plays semi-neurotic, anxious, and totally disfunctional characters probably very well because he is so good at it. I'm not saying that this character doesn't have real problems but he should have seen it coming much sooner than on his honeymoon.

If I hadn't been so bored, I probably would have not watched this however, usually, if I buy a movie to watch and turn around and sell it beforehand, then I often feel like I wasted my money, so I wind up feeling obligated to watch it. But, this time, I'm really sorry that I even started this one.

On the laugh index I'd say about 5 small chuckles every 20 minutes or so.

This film get a mere 2/5 just because it has a few funny uncomfortable moments.

WHY the ONE☆STARS?

5 ☆☆☆☆☆ STARS all the WAY!
The Heartbreak Kid 2007 is HILARIOUS😂
I've watched this movie so many times and laughed hysterically each time. I've also watched it with my friends and family who would think it's funny... and I love laughing all over again watching it with them, because of course, I wouldn't take my grandmother to see this movie she probably would give it a one-star you...Read full review...

Avoid this film

I usually like Farrelly Brothers films, but this was disappointing. There were very few laughs in this film. So few in fact even the gag reel in the special features was a complete waste of time. I know this is a Farrelly Brothers film, so I can forgive the weak storyline, but this was just a poor setup. The ending was totally obvious and lame. The character of Ben Stiller's wife is so ridiculous and annoying, I didn't even want to look at or listen to her, even with the several nude scenes. Carlos Mencia is almost as annoying and not funny. His stupid gagline was unbearable after the first time.Read full review...

"Good Romantic Comedy!"

Ben Stiller, Malin Akerman and Michelle Monaghan star in this
2007 Farrelly Brothers comedy. A married man falls for a woman
on his honeymoon. Ben is great as usual and Michelle and Malin
are also great in this. This dvd has nice picture and sound plus
neat extras. I recommend this good romantic comedy.
