The best of Nicole Kidman

Did arrive well protected, very quick and in perfect conditions. For me is the best film of Nicole Kidman with not doubt. But the performance by Sean Penn is also second to none. The film is not exaggerated at all in any sense, not overcharged by especial effects, the first planes are brilliantly choice and the music is brilliant. It is also a denounce about what is going in Africa but presented in a very appealing way.Read full review...

The Interpreter DVD

Saw part of it on TV, so liked the storyline that I decided to buy the product so that I could watch the whole thing in my own time. Will pass it on to the family to enjoy as well.

The Interpreter DVD.

This is a great DVD to settle down late at night with a glass of wine, and the one you love, as it contains little in the way of sex,or violence.
Nicole Kidman (I am not her greatest Fan!)is excellent in the lead role, and Sean Penn never seems to give a bad performance whatever film he appears in.

A nice twist at the end,and some great location filming make this a movie which i highly recommend, particually as you can buy the DVD for as little as £1.50 on Ebay,or Amazon.

Gripping political thriller

It's always a nice surprise when movies turn out better-than-expected. The Interpreter, thanks to Nicole Kidman, was not just thoughtful, but involving. As with anything having Sean Penn in it, it was somewhat top-heavy in the 'message' department, but Kidman's elfin grace saved the day. Her portrait of a 'white' woman-and fair-haired as well; which kind of drives home the point-whose 'home' is a country where white skin is a cause of social displacement, discrimination and alienation, was understated and therefore effective. By comparion, Penn was ponderous and colorless; which is possibly as it should have been. His character, despite a contrived background that served mainly as a tool for some contemplative philosophy of life and death, remained essentially shallow and undemanding.

The pacing of the story was uneven, but in this instance that was an asset. There was too much heavy stuff in here, which required some down-time on the part of the audience. All in all, the dosage was well measured and applied judiciously.

For those who wonder, after they saw the movie, just what exactly was the 'point', or what it was all 'about'-apart from it being a political polemic, which, of course and sadly, it was to a large extend...

Well, it's all in the ending-which in this movie does wrap things up, showing up the dismal and near-uncrossable gulf that will always exist between people who have something to live for and those who basically don't.

The interpreter

I really enjoyed this film. I bought it as a set with the first two bourne films and wasn't sure what to expect. I felt the film was full of drama, suspense, mystery and it keep me interested the whole time I was watching it. I thought Sean Penn played a great part, Nicole did well. Would definitely recommend it.Read full review...

The Interpreter - A Political Thriller for our Age

This is an adult movie in the sense that everyone in it is a grown up struggling with grown up matters. If you are in the mood for a shoot-them-up or some teenage romance, this film may disappoint you. But if you have the time to relax and be taken through the twists and turns of the plot, you are in for an enjoyable time.

Excellent performances by all three principle actors; Nicole Kidman is strong and believable, Sean Penn is unbelievably human for a secret agent and the UN building is often as empty and silent as recent American Administrations would wish it.

Not a masterpiece, but an intriguing story intelligently told.

Best alone or with the other half and a bottle of good wine.

the interpreter

Fantastic I thought. I've watched it twice in two days and could still watch it some more!
Sean Penn was brilliant and made a brilliantly intricate perormance which is on par with some all time greats like Hopkins and Washington.
The story line was good and not predictable I didnt think.
I would'nt say it has you on the edge of your seat like the cover says but I still loved it.
It had just the right amount of emotion where you could feel for the actors involved without feeling suicidal at the end of it all.
Nicole was great in it too and whereas before I have never really bothered paying much attention to her acting I am now a firm fan. She was great.
I loved everything about this film and it is one of my all time favourites that I just couldnt do without now......
Oh and the big black guy is good looking but well scary...

A good watch

A nicely made film revolving around serious issues. Set in the UN an interpreter gets caught up in a plot that suddenly puts her into danger. She is put under police protection eventually but is she a victim or a suspect?

A good performance from Nicole Kidman.

Plus you get to listen to a made up language!
