Dreamtime
A cult classic. Dreamtime: eerie, magical, fascinating, disturbing. I first saw this film years ago and then again maybe 10 years ago. It has been haunting me lately and so I had to own it. The short version is that a white lawyer (Richard Chamberlain) defends a group of aboriginal Australians accused of murder. The defendants are not helpful in their own defense and deny that they killed a tribe member who violated a tribal taboo. The lawyer begins having prophetic visions of water somehow connected to himself and aboriginal prophesies about the end of the world. Who is he? How is he connected to the aborigines? The film contains a lot of symbolism, including extreme weather with black rain and huge hailstones. The didgeridoo music enhances the feeling of portending doom. Read full review

Peter Weir at his pre-American best.
Overlooked Peter Weir film is a good, eerie followup to his "Picnic at Hanging Rock."

A missed opportunity
The narrative focuses too much on Richard Chamberlain character.
