The Perfect Companion Piece to The Trilogy (LOTR)

I have only just recently heard of this book; I didn't even know it existed but I am glad to have found it now.

This is a must-have for fans of the books and movies alike; while all of the principal photography was captured from the movies, the drawn maps and descriptions are from the Tolkien canon; so all references to weapons, armor, battle tactics and the like came from the source material- which the movie producers took great pains to recreate.

If you've ever wondered about Aragorn's sword, or Legolas's bow or the heraldry and arms of Gondor and Rohan, or the creation and training of the Orcs and their allies- you must have this book.

It covers arms, armaments and battle tactics (as well as combatants on both sides) from the Last Alliance of Elves and Men who fought in the Battle of Dagorlad to the final battle in the War of the Ring- be it Elvish, Rohirric, Gondorian, Dwarven or Orcish- with detailed entries regarding the major players and last but not least, the wizards!!! Well, no mention is made of Radagast the Brown or the other two, minor wizards of which no mention is made except in the Silmarillion, but since they weren't in the movies either, nothing lost, right?

In short, if you have any affinity for the books and/or the movies, or if you just love swords, armor and weapons in general, this book is a MUST-HAVE. Gorgeously illustrated with 1000 photos, maps and drawings, even if you don't like to read, it is still a worthwhile book to LOOK AT.

Wow!! Weapons and Warfare

I am a total Lord of the Rings nerd and own many of these movie books however, I think this one is one of my favorites because, along with the gorgeous photos and drawings as contained in all of them, this one reads like a history book and it captures the feeling Lord of the Rings gives you - that it really happened and this is a part of our history...the very very beginning of our world. That is what good books are all about to take a magical fictional place and make it a reality...Peter Jackson is a genius and his crew and cast fantastic...an epic trilogy to never be surpassed. This book is so informational and I learned alot and it is well done.Read full review...

States exactly, what it's about.

I like this book because, it is very much like a history book. It explains the weapons and armour of the characters but it is set up in a chronological order of the history of Middle Earth and the Ring of Power. It starts with the War of the High Elves and the Dark Lord Sauron, then to the Mission of the Fellowship and then to the destruction of the Ring.
This book gives many detailed descrptions of all weapons and the armour of all the races of Middle Earth, and how they were used, and the characters also are described in detail, with their parts in the story.
I have several other books about the making of the movies and thought this would compliment them.
