Hypnotic As Opposed to HYPNOS (zZZZ...)

This disc is more music than lyric, but could be good background music for tempo at a party, something that will provide atmosphere but not intrude on conversation. I found it somewhat hypnotic, compelling, or pulsing, definitely didn't put me to sleep, but could call it a "cool down" cycle after listening to hours of NIN's harder "revs" of the Industrial engine. It's not a long recording (34:32 total length) and might be a good 'interlude' disc for those who like a cooldown space between harder runs. It picks up towards the end of track 3. That part of it reminds me of 80-ish dance music, with an edgy sort of rhythm that accelerates or increases pressure until it drops off in a machinelike pounding rhythm, then takes up the fast dance rhythm again. The next track is slower again like the first two tracks, with a metronomic rhythm-stick sort of beat, a little spacey stuff in there. The last of the 5 tracks has an echoey, spacey quality and slow tempo. Could be a good workout or exercise CD because of the regular rhythmic beat. While I much prefer their harder driving sounds, I'm not always on fast-forward either, and listening to music is a mood preference for me. I use their music for tempo or tone for my writing or artwork and enjoy NIN's quieter moments as well as their harder paced, marching machinelike beats. I love their electronic mixed harmonics and discords, spacey rhythms... but of course, *space is the place* for me (out in space, and up and down in it!). I originally rated this at 4/5 but upped it to 5/5 as the longer I've been listening to it the more I like it/love it! I often start my NIN Industrial cycle with it.Read full review...

The Perfect Sedative

Honestly, I bought this cd only to continue filling the cracks in my NIN collection. I have listened to the cd and was thoroughly unimpressed by every track. In my opinion it is the weakest of all NIN remix releases. I feel a lot more could have been done with the rich layering of music and vocals that the original song contains. The "nail in the coffin" for this cd is the fact that this version(US)doesn't even contain the original mix of TPD. I don't recommend this disc to casual listeners. If you are a NIN collector/slave you already have it. So the bottomline is, if for some reason you like hearing the words "the perfect drug" repeated ad nauseum and you like random noises that are sped up and/or slowed down for close to 35 minutes buy this cd.Read full review...

The perfect NIN

I have always loved what Trent has done. I think his vreativity is always fresh and new. His music has always struck a certain nerve with me. I hope he is with us for a long tie as I think he has a lot to offer as a person and a musician.Read full review...

a great remix CD for a NIN fan

I've always liked "The Perfect Drug", and I've been waiting to hear the remixes for a while now. I wasn't disappointed at all. Well worth buying if you're a NIN fan, like me.

Industrial - Trent Reznor does it again.

The Perfect Drug [Single] - Nine Inch Nails (CD)
Fantastic once again from Trent Reznor. Industrial music is here to stay.
