The world of Princess Bride

Goldman's classic "abridgement" of a "S. Morgenstern classic" is light, humorous, and most of all entertaining. Anyone familiar with the movie has already experienced a taste of Goldman's writing style (he wrote the screenplay also). While the book does have differences from the movie, there is wonderful overlap, and the book provides deeper insight into the story behind the story--that of how Goldman "discovered" this wonderful story. The light satire of Goldman's style is evident throughout the book, and the 25th anniversary introduction and 1st chapter of the "long-lost sequel" are also a great addition to the book which has, in my mind, the ability to transcend age groups, generation gaps, and fads. Yes, it is possible to be a PB fanatic...but even non-fanatics can appreciate the story Goldman has *cough* edited.

(For those of you confused by all of the quotation marks littering my review, check out the wikipedia article here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Princess_Bride.)

Wonderfully funny

This book is an instant classic. When I first read it, I admit I was fooled by the author's foolish antics. That's probably what makes this book so much more than its competitors. The entire novel is kind of like one big practical joke, which causes it to create instant laughs. My advice is to read this book, especially if you loved the movie, because it will be worth it. You'll get a kick out of all the funny details that are completely fabricated.Read full review...

Forget the Movie, Read the Book

This book is a classic. Humor, adventure, humor, romance, and of course humor. This book will entertain boys, girls, women and men. It has something for everyone.

If you can, see if you can get one of the older editions that has the "author's comments" in red print.Read full review...

Great for the price.

One book was a different cover and not taken care of well. The spine is split and coming apart. The other book is exactly as pictured and good condition..

I like this version and one other for the easy to read content, hand pictures and hard cover. Looks great on any den or bookshelf.

Happy

Great book in great shape. Just the cover was different. Had movie cover but the back cover was funny and made my son laugh so I would say we are happy!

My absolute favorite

This is my favorite book! I grew up with the movie never realizing that there was even such a thing as the novel, The Princess Bride. Once I read it however, I soon became a walking advirtisement for the novel, telling everyone to read it. I still love the movie but I have expanded to loving the book as well. If you've watched the movie I'm sure you'll love the book because it expands the story and you find out things about the characters' path that you never even dreamed of. I highly recommend this book.Read full review...

High adventure! True Love! Fencing!

This book.

Where to begin?

It is the very greatest story of love to be written in a long time; S. Morgenstern's tale is a true as Westley's love; as strong as Fezzik's arms; as cunning as Vizzini and Prince Humperdink's minds together; and and as deeply touching to the reader's heart as solidly and realistically as the tip of Inigo Montoya's six-fingered sword.

In short, this book is the be-all-end-all work of romantic adventures.

As awesome as the movie!

The epic movie deviated a smidge but the book is great! I dare you to try reading without character voices... inconceivable!

Awesome book.

It's a spectacular book. Fun read and gives me lots of laughs. Brings me back to the days when I used to read fairy tales as a child, very nostalgic, but as an adult now, the humor in the book is very fitting for adults as a fairy tale, but still a great read even for the kids...provided you censor out a few details, but all in all, fantastic book!Read full review...
