An excellent starter book for History of Art courses. Appeals to the young! The story is comprehensive and starts 7000 years ago and is continued to the present. The book has been revised, too, several times since 1950, and still retains a freshness. Gombrich deserves his status in this particular genre.Read full review...

A real classic

I used this book for A level, then again for my degree, but I continue to enjoy it for pleasure.It is an absolute classic, which has been updated regularly.
a must for all who enjoy art.
