Lively and entertaining!

Keith Michell (Six Wives of Henry VIII) shines as Jacob and anchors the story from beginning to end. Michell gives an outstanding performance as Jacob, the reluctant young deceiver who steals his brother Esau's birthright. He becomes a convincing patriarch of twelve sons by four wives, and finally a heartbroken old man who has lost his beloved son Joseph and refuses to risk losing his last son, Benjamin.

Colleen Dewhurst chews the scenery as a fierce Rebekah, who all but destroys Jacob's life and breaks his brother Esau. I got a kick out of Esau's comic relief--exchanging manly punches with his father, howling in delight when he brings down a kill, and snickering mischievously at the sight of all of Jacob's children and wives.

The story of Joseph is enjoyable but marred by terrible acting from Potiphar's wife. As the teen-aged Joseph, Tony LoBianco is too old but he gives a beautiful performance as the adult Joseph. The moment when Joseph as governor of Egypt forgives his brothers who sold him into slavery is tender and unforgettable.

The movie was shot on location in Israel, with an almost-all Israeli cast, which gives it a marvelous authenticity in look and cultural customs.

Overall, I'd rate this movie as A- and well worth viewing.

Story Of Jacob And Essau, and Joesph

This a splendid account of the bilical old testament story of Jacob and Essau, and Joeseph. The tale of brothers torn aprt by jealousy and greed, then reunited by God's grace and the strange and suspenseful way He allowed these events to unfold. The dvd is factually correct according to the scriptures and brings the scriptures to life in living color in a drama the whole family can enjoy. Scenes from the film make you feel a part of the era you are watching. The soundtrack by Mikis Theodorakis provides an excellent backdrop to an already excellent film.Read full review...

I will treasure this DVD Movie, great and informative

The Movie was somewhat accurate with the teachings of the Bible, though it was just a portrayal of the real Characters from the Bible. The picture quality was excellent, sound was excellent, and I will watch this movie over and over again. Thank you so much for making it possible to appreciate having the DVD.Read full review...

Good

Very Good story! But a lot left out. Was very disappointed that not the whole story was told.. For instance: where Laban came to Jacob after he left his household and how he wrestled with an angel all night. How he was very fearful of Esau coming to meet him. Meeting his father again. Rachel dying. Joseph marrying. Joseph meeting his Father again. All these parts are not included.. It is a very brief story of Jacob and Joseph. But still good, to those who don't need the whole story to be satisfied.Read full review...

A Great Addition!

For the most part, this is a biblically accurate rendering of the story of Jacob and Joseph. Well done, but not better than the Bible Story Collection starring Matthew Modine as Jacob. Add it to the library anyway. It is definitely worth it!!Read full review...

A WONDERFUL FAMILY FILM ABOUT LOVE, VIRTUE AND HONOR

THIS MOVIE IS ACTUALLY IN TWO PARTS. THE FIRST IS ABOUT JACOB AND HIS GROWING UP AND OBTAINING THE BIRTHRITE FROM HIS BROTHER ONLY TO HAVE TO FLEE TO KEEP FROM HAVING HIS BROTHER KILL HIM. HIS BROTHER SHOULD HAVE EXPLAINED TO THEIR FATHER THAT HE HAD PROMISED GOD THAT HE WAS GIVING THE BIRTHRITE TO HIS BROTHER AS HE SWORE BEFORE EATING JACOB'S FOOD. THE MOVIE ALSO RELATES HOW JACOB MET HIS WIVES AND HAD HIS CHILDREN AND EVENTUALLY MADE UP WITH HIS BROTHER.

THE SECOND PART OF THE MOVIE TELLS ABOUT ONE OF JACOB'S 12 SONS NAMED JOSEPH WHOSE BROTHERS SOLD HIM AS A SLAVE, HOW HE WOUND OUT IN EGYPT IN JAIL, AND THEN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF PHAROAH AS HE COULD INTERPET DREAMS AND THE DREAM HE HAD ABOUT THE SHEAVES BOWING TO HIM WHEN HIS BROTHERS DID THAT IN EGYPT.

THIS IS A WONDERFUL FILM THAT DEPICTS NOT ONLY GOOD BUT BAD AND HOW FAMILIES REUNITE AFTER BAD TIMES BEFALL THEM AND A GREAT BIBLE STORY THAT EVEN NON-JEWISH PEOPLE CAN ENJOY.
