Memories of WW2 with Vera Lynn

This CD has very special memories for veterans of WW2. A sent it to my 96 year old cousin who was a lady Marine married to an Army officer. She is very alert and living in a facility for retired Military. She really enjoyed it.Read full review...

Not So Great

The songs that are reproduced on this CD are old cuts and are tinny sounding. They are the songs that I wanted, but I have an audio tape that has much more quality sound. Especially on "Just Yours" and my old VHS movie of "Dr. Strangelove" has a much better cut of "We'll Meet Again" at the end of the movie. These were made during WWII and have more coral group chiming in to hype the crowds. She had such a powerful and beautiful voice that she did not need them as much and on later cuts, she soloed more with a better orchestra.

I'll try other sources for a CD of her songs. My wife died last autumn and a couple of Lynn's songs are to be played next spring at my wife's celebration of life. I'll probably have to use my older technology recordings to properly honor my wife.
More modern does Not always mean more better.

The Greatest CD of a Generation

This is, by far, the greatest CD I have ever bought. After WW-II my mom and dad would fight like cats and dogs. Whenever one of the songs played (from the CD) then on 45 they would look at each other and embrace and start dancing to the songs by Vera Lynn. That music has stayed with me all my life. Now here I am in my 60's and I discover Vera Lynn on Ebay (and YouTube) and listen to the songs. Mom and Dad are gone now but the woman who kept the troops entertained in UK and US and Burma sang with her heart and the songs are "romantic classics". Now years later when Dame Vera Lynn is 92 she released this CD in Aug '09 in UK and has risen to the top of the UK Pop charts. She is #1 at age 92 and topped the Beatles recent release. Vera Lynn was the Forces Sweetheart for WW-II and her music will be remembered forever. I like this CD so much that I intend to buy another for myself as a MASTER and buy several others for my older relatives for Christmas, especially those who served and lived through the tough times of WW-II. Fantastic CD - and one Great Lady singing. Bless her!Read full review...
