Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Bass strings long scale

Strings are personal preference first and foremost - i'm not going to tell you these are the best strings ever but rather
they are another choice of "tool" to use to achieve a means to an end if wanting more lower mid thump and presence.
I placed these on my Fender '62 reissue Jazz Bass (dual concentric passive eq's / volumes) with a replacement fretless ebony board unlined neck. Instantly , i was taken back to that '60's warm MoTown sound. These strings are the warmest i've ever played and they are easy on the fingers - but, i wasn't immediately won over by their feel which is super easy and smooth, but for myself , probably requires me to change up my fingering pull and fretting - which i don't want to pursue at this time. With these strings there is more of a contact to the fingerboard - and that affects your dynamics until you get used to fingering it just right. I also had to raise the action on my setup to avoid the ping
against the fingerboard because of the extra mass of string material held against it. So , i took them off and put back on the DR Sunbeams or the Fodera nickel rounds i am so accustomed to using - by far these two other string sets have different toneful properties that i enjoy and have learned to eq to my liking and are easy playing as well. I like the Thomastik Jazz Bass strings for what they are and would use them exclusively for jazz and 60's music flavor - but, i would have to make some adjustments to my technique to get the most out of this string set that i'm not willing to chase right now. Who knows ... you may be naturally gifted at using these strings and they might react better on your instrument - i don't dislike the Thomastiks ... i'm just not willing to change right now to fully appreciate using them.

Sometimes the price tag is worth it

As others have said, the price of TI's made me hesitate. But once I bought and used them, they ended up lasting much longer than SEVERAL sets of D'Addario Chromes. As a result they turned out to be a real bargain. They feel fantastic and sound incredible, which gives me confidence and even makes me play better. They sound bright and fresh months and even years later. The lower tension was perfect for the thin neck on my Geddy Lee Jazz Bass. Yet they never feel at all sloppy, and they stay in tune. They have a nice growl when dialed in right, which is amazing for flats. Great sustain too. TI's are all I'll ever use now, and I'm saving a bunch of money (and hassle) by not having to swap out sets after a month or two. Pull the trigger on these - you won't be sorry.Read full review...

Best flat wound bass guitar strings

Very responsive strings with a full tonal range. Lower tension with truss adjustment needed increasing neck relief after switch from labella Jamison flats. I've played various flat wounds for 50+ years and these strings are worth a little extra $. Will be vey interested to see how they age, right now I absolutely love them on my fretted jazz bass, likely changemy fretless jazz bassRead full review...

Good flat wound strings very light weight

Good flats, very light weight though. I am pretty heavy handed player and I’m used to heavier strings. I’ve had them on the bass about six months. Really I don’t play that bass very much but so far so good.Read full review...

Always great sound from these strings.

I've been using these strings on ALL my Fender basses for six plus years and they've never let me down. Each time I add another bass to my collection, off come the strings that came with the bass, and on go the Thomastic 344's. Strings are a personal choice, but these suit me, the music I play, and how I play the instrument.Read full review...

Best flat wounds that aren't tape wounds

Kind of a investment here but could last decades. Pony up spend the money and get great studio sounds as well as live. A dream to use with a direct box of quality and of course an amplifier...

A great vintage sound!

These are great strings. They give you that warm vintage sound, but they are supple, responsive and easy to fret. Easy on the fingers. They last a very very long time. Years!

The gold standard for flats

I put off buying TI flats for years; I told myself I couldn't justify the expense, and now I'm kicking myself for it. They feel amazing under your fingers -- extremely flexible -- and sound great both when they're newly installed and once they're broken in. Learn from my mistake: don't even mess around with other strings manufacturers. Spend a little more now and cop a set of flats you'll play for as long as you own your bass.Read full review...

The Very Best Electric Bass Strings on Earth.

This set of strings are the choice of the most demanded, most recorded bass player, with the most #1 hits in the world. That bass player is Carol Kaye. I was a loyal Roto-Sound user, but after I tried Thomastik my bass sounded twice as good. They are a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.Read full review...
