Disappointing to true Torchwood fans.

As usual, US corporate television takes a great UK show and guts it. They added lots of gore and sex, but took out everything that made Torchwood exceptional: riveting plot, aliens coming through the rift, emotional connections between the characters, unforeseen twists. What's left is the same homogenous crap that drove me away from US television in the first place.

Now it's just a bunch of skinny women who can't act and a token black guy stumbling through a meandering storyline with nothing but cheap & grotesque special effects. If you're into blood and gore for the sake of blood and gore, then you'll adore this. If you have half a brain, you'll understand why this series didn't get picked up in the US.

An entertaining SyFy: Big Pharmaceutical action for all

This 4-disk-set is Season 4 (final season) of the Torchwood syfy series.
Overall the action is not so much science-fiction as it appears to be political-pharmaceutical-fiction. Interesting and visionary take on big pharma sales. The characters are fictional of course, The action drama has the usual two-plane levels::the main dramatic action in the foreground (this is ok) and the characters family life/drama/LGBT in the background (mostly boring and advertising like for relationships), all in childish gun-wearing frames.Overall, the script is heavy on bullet&muscle, low on the intellect, surprisingly entertaining (I usually skip the family & LGBT scenes without losing the thread). .I did purchase this disk set to complete the whole Torchwood series 1-2-3-4 and donate it for free to my local library. Since it was made in Wales, you can't be comfortable that your favorite characters will survive. Every episode is more heavily invested with danger than American TV.
