Tight Tight Fit

Added a radio to the bike, and couldn't hear the tunes over the roar of the pipes, so installed these. They really really quieted the machine; still, it has a nice tone and the definite Harley rumble, especially when I get on it. They do exactly what they are supposed to do. Install was a bit difficult. I did not remove some of the glass as others suggested and regret it. They arrived well wrapped for the entire length (not a few wraps of tape as pictured) so I thought I'd try slipping them in. I used some silicone based lube normally used to slip large things into tight places. Coated the entire thing and also put a little inside of the pipe. The first one slipped in with just a little coaxing using a large socket driven by a tapping rubber mallet. The second one scared me as it went in harder and harder with each successive tap. As I drove it in, I had to use a screw driver to push the bunched up matting into the pipe. It became increasingly evident I was beyond the point-of-no-return. It had to go in. There's just no way I could have pulled it out. I had to finish with a steel hammer against the socket until it finally found home. Then the screw hole was off ever so slightly and the only thing I could do is carefully grind the pipe hole a bit larger with a Dremel, being careful not to mess up the threads on the baffle. Do yourself a favor and take off 4 to 6 inches of glass before you begin!Read full review...

Vance and Hines 21899 quiet baffle

Vance & Hines 21899 quiet baffle if Your running a XL 883 or 1200 Sportster equipped with V&H Twin Slash mufflers these baffles will be a much better improvement over the 'V&H standard baffle'. My experience on my 2015 883 Iron was the standard baffle was just too large on the internal diameter and lost too much back pressure which resulted in lack of low end torque and throttle response. Even after remapping with a FP-3 the low end was just not there the noise level of the standard baffle was neighbor aggravating and motorcycle cop attentive. The 21899 quit baffle will knock about 10-12db's out of idle and cruise sound but give you a smooth deep rumble and the back pressure will increase enough on the smaller displacement Sportster engine to make rolling on the throttle more enjoyable. These are a bit challenging to install I recommend taking the mufflers off of the bike and using a penetrating oil as a lubricant when installing them. On one baffle I had to cut off about 3" of fiberglass matting as it was wrapped with more matting than my other baffle that I had purchased and be sure to use a good plastic handy wrap to tighten the matting and spray the inside of the muffler body and handy wrap with the penetrating oil before installation. 73's from Arizona.Read full review...

They work but.

Like others have said, they fit really tight. I had to remove the outer shrink rap and remove about 6 inches of the fiberglass glass packing, then rerap them. If I didn't do that the packing just gets all pushed to one end and even makes it harder to slide them in. If they could be rapped tighter they might fit better. After they are installed, the plastic rap just burns away. You can smell it for a mile or two. They do quiet the bike down. After a couple hundred miles I like the way they sound.Read full review...

Perfect

A very easy product to fit to my pipes, took me 1/2 hr to do the job, "midnight " now has a voice.
With little effort and a bit of lube the baffle slipped into position with ease.

Impressive exhaust sound

The normal Vance & Hines pipes are just a little too loud. These baffles reduce the sound level just enough to make it more tolerable on longer trips but they still have an impressive exhaust sound. Highly recommend. My Indian Scout now sounds like a V twin should.Read full review...

Small noise reduction. Don’t remove the cellophane wrapping !!!

You really need these if you’ve bought the V and H competition pipes. Not a noticeable Db reduction. About 108Db at 1metre on my Indian Bobber down to 104Db
